Blainy was a brilliant teammate/roommate/opening bowling partner - passionate, honest and hard-working…not to mention very tidy! He was our enforcer with the ball and is now an excellent coach who has successfully mentored many junior/senior players of all backgrounds.

Mum would have been 80 today. She was the kindest most gentle lady. I saw her shout once when our neighbour refused to return a ball that lobbed into his backyard. She gave him the hair dryer treatment - he quickly handed the ball back! My brother and I stood in proud disbelief.

One of the first things I noticed about John when he came back into the Scotland team was that he would always take time out to thank the ground/catering staff and ensure changing rooms were left tidy. He hated apathy, particularly when players were representing their country.
