Exactly one year ago, during a hot day of summer in 🇪🇸 , I was getting amazed w/ the core of neural networks.
One year after;
- I'm here at California for (1 mo)
- on the way of getting into a new area of AI like diffusion models to start making new good-quality stuff
Infinitely amazed by the simplicity and robustness of Gradient Descent, and how it manages to reach a local minimum by following the opposite direction of the gradient, scaling its steps by learning rate. The heart of algorithms, without a doubt.😍

Neural Networks adjust their params thanks to the backward pass; without these gradients; wouldn't be possible to go downhill trough the error paradigm. Since we pass "batches" of data trough the nn, this error convex curve to minimize is constantly changuing, incredible!

So the essential pipeline would be as follows:
1) We use a face detection model to get all the faces from the current frame (e.g yolo)
2) Then, for each cropped face, we run a siamese net to get a similarity value between them and the faces from the database
