@tolstoybb Someone check me:. The U.S. got 110 runs with 8 outs in 20 overs. The Indians are batting now and have made 33 runs with 2 outs in six overs, so they have 9 outs and 84 bowls to get at least 77 runs. Right?.

@bonchieredstate “It remained standing”… so they felled it. The modern version of:. If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it.

@SouthernKeeks No tip for counter service or take-out. 20% for dine-in or delivery. There is a very specific reason for that related to how wages for those specific employees have been historically set. It’s dumb, but without an industry-wide reset, it is what it is.

@SteveHiltonx Well, let’s see. 20% the population. Only one major urban center. Only one time zone. Area about the same as Arizona and New Mexico put together. That about covers it.

@kevinbaum013 Chlorinated drinking water happened because John Leal poured chlorine into a reservoir in Jersey City without telling anyone. You can’t make it up.

@JaagoPaarth @tolstoybb My favorite thing to watch is that move when a fielder will hop up in the air at the boundary, catch and redirect the ball back towards the field of play, land and then run and catch it. It’s like watching a receiver make a fingertip grab and drag both toes to make a catch.

@lib_crusher They totally weren’t miraculous. Go to 5th floor museum and look out the window. The distances are very, very short and Oswald was a Marine. Anybody who’s been there would say,.“Of course he could have made that shot.” Looks much further on TV.

@PR0GRAMMERHUM0R I read a story once about someone who bankrolled a real live tournament player who knew nothing. Their algorithm: fold every hand except AA or KK and then go all-in (there was some untold algorithm for handling the big blind). They made it almost to the money but lost KK to AA.

@xtck9 @doggirlsnuffing The dig on Americans is that we don’t know what a long time is. The dig on Europeans is that they don’t know what a long distance is. NYC->LA == Madrid->Moscow.

@React2W @AtoZ_Payton Nah, bro. The year after the trade, Stafford took his team to and won the Super Bowl. That’s literally “it wasn’t me, it was you.”. Now, since then the Lions got a new coach, some good draft picks and it’s been good. But Stafford was an upgrade for the Rams that year.

@lporiginalg “Brutal?”. Something like 90% of the pre-Columbian population died of European diseases without ever seeing a white face. This at a time when no one had any idea what disease even *was*.

@cogman_bryan @renuvian @theseantcollins This is why there should be a compulsory license scheme for audiovisual works older than ten years, at least if we’re going to have multi-generational copyright terms.

@BadWeaponTakes Someone needs to explain to me what is the fundamental aspect of the AR-15 that distinguishes it from every other semiautomatic rifle and makes it necessary to subject it especially to a ban. From what I can tell it’s because it’s popular. That’s it.

@awinston Your right to free movement does not extend to mandating that the public transit system you are using does not stop to do things you don’t want it to do, including allowing cops to board and leave. There is a difference between a subway train and a private automobile.

@_trash_void @YIMBYLAND Reactors come in all sizes. They fit nuclear reactors in submarines. And a properly designed rector keeps the radiation inside. The background inside a containment building is actually lower than it is outside.

@matthiasellis Centuries ago, what we call classical music was paid for either by the church or by aristocrats. Nowadays it’s paid for by Hollywood. Even works that aren’t attached to a movie wind up subsidizing modern classical composers to create other work.

@BasedMikeLee At the end of WWII we basically made them sign a treaty that said, “You guys don’t get to have a real army anymore. We will do that for you.”. And, thus, we have 55,000 American troops in Japan.

@KurtSchlichter Also, the so-called popular vote compact is a suicide pact. What happens when a thousand votes separate the two candidates out of 100+ million cast? Where do you go for a recount?. The EC brings *finality* to our only national political contest.
