Its a cold and depressing winter in deep lock down
Peggy doesn't care ... her love for the bin men continues
Hope this brightens a sad morning for us all
Seven years ago today we left the madness of suburbia and the grind of the daily commute to London in exchange for a new life in The Highlands. I left a career that I'd loved, with no plan of what was next
No regrets ... not even one
This is home ...

@GMB
@akalamusic
I have to say that
@akalamusic
is singularly very impressive and speaks with cogent sense and clarity that many of our politicians could learn from.
The "woke barristers" thing is rearing its head again, because
@Keir_Starmer
once having did his job in accordance with his code of practice . I'm not going to comment on the cab rank rule, as others like
@TonyKent_Writes
and
@BarristerSecret
have already eloquently done so

I am very delighted to share this news
Three new crime novels heading your way ... I can't wait to introduce you to DS Max Craigie and his team in my new Scottish crime thriller
BRILLIANT NEWS! We’ve acquired not one, not two, but THREE brand new gripping crime thrillers from the incredible
@neillancaster66
! 🎉
The first book in a new Scottish crime series is coming July 2021. Watch this space…
So, lads. Don't think it's just evil bastards who need barristers.
It's all of us. Access to justice, and access to competent defence is what underpins a just society.
Even the most evil bastard deserves competent defence.
If we lose this, we stop being a democracy.
Ends
When I started writing this book at the beginning of 2020, just as lockdown started to bite, I never, for one moment I'd be sharing a tweet like this .
over 50,000 people have read
#DeadMansGrave

I'm flabbergasted !!
The numbers say it all!
We are so proud of
@neillancaster66

3 will be coming very soon happy days. a beer is in order
During my career I spent a huge amount of time being cross-examined by many defence barristers. I didn't always enjoy the experience, but I always appreciated that their role is vital in a fair and just society.
They deserve fair remuneration and I support their action 100%
However cool you think you are, you'll never be as cool as the smartly suited, Crombie-wearing, moustachioed Detective Inspector George Johnston tackling a razor wielding thug at a sectarian rally in Glasgow, fag still clamped between his lips in 1971... Legend.
Dear people ... please stop giving me 1 star reviews for something I didn't do !!!!
I just wrote the fucking thing ... someone else corrupted the kindle book
I've had a bad day, and this is making it worse
@BarristerSecret
It's a shame no one told them that this would happen at the time.
p.s..... Everyone told them, Cops, Lawyers, Judges.... Literally everyone said this would happen!!!
Alone woman murdered whilst walking her dog
Where's the outrage ?
Where's the hashtags?
Why isn't this top of all the newsreels?
BBC News - PCSO Julia James: Searches as murder probe continues
This is why
@goodreads
has a problem
A one-star rating for my next book, which isn't out until 2024.
The only people to have read this book are my agent, editor, copy editor and my wife.
Now unless one of them has done a nasty on me, I suspect this rating is malicious
As a writer, it's sometimes easy to think that we're just writing daft stories that don't really matter. Then you get a lovely message like this one and you think again.
Stories really do matter.
Libraries matter, and we'll be so much poorer as a nation if we lose them
With just a week until
#TheNightWatch
publishes in paperback, we're blown away that
@neillancaster66
has sold over 100,000 books in his crime thriller Max Craigie series!
⚰️Authentic. 🔪 Thrilling. 💀 Gripping.
As
@MarionETodd
says:
‘Neil Lancaster is so damn clever’
I've been bursting with this information, but sworn to silence ... well its on the
@waterstones
website now
#DeadMansGrave
is Waterstones Scottish book of the month ... and I'm over the moon about it ..thanks to all my supporters ... Happy Hogmanay!!
Peggy doing her bit showing gratitude to our brilliant bin men .. social distancing deprives her of getting fussed, but if you watch carefully you can see a bonio is left on the bin for her ... check the tail !!
I'm consuming lots of non-fiction right now and this excellent book. is typically fascinating and also terribly disturbing, as I expected
Top work

Are you actually saying these words?
Juries dont give narrative verdicts as you know.
All we can take from this verdict is that at least 3 were not SURE that D intended to kill PC Outten. They found he intentionally caused GBH, with the 6 machete blows

I spent 25 years as a detective in the Met Police. I lost count of the amount of people I sat across the interview table from, all of whom though that it would never happen to them.
The guy defending himself in a fight.
The driver who momentarily lost control at the wheel

My son is 29, he’s a Cpl in the Ryal Marines. He has led others into conflict. He can organise complex communications systems under fire. He is calm, confident, empathetic with common sense. no degree. he’d have to take a £13000 pay cut and be an apprentice..
#yourlosspolicing
The guy behind the counter at a kebab shop, who almost blinded a violent, racist thug.
All people who woke up just going about their business, trying to earn a living, or just enjoying a night out.
It can, and it does happen to "normal people"
It COULD happen to you

This is always ripe for a struggling government to pick on, as they know that your average member of the public sees criminal trials, and thinks "well, its criminals, not me. I'll never be in that situation."
Let me tell you. You're wrong.
Because you might be, one day.
2/?
The teacher with an malicious allegation against them
The store detective who broke the arm of a violent shoplifter
The guy who killed someone who was trying to stab him. It only takes a good punch, and a head hitting a kerb, and you could be facing a manslaughter charge.

is out today in paperback, woo-hoo !
Genuinely think it's the best yet, so why not give it a whirl

We had to say goodbye to Freddie the cat today... he was 15 and his kidneys had had given up .. he was a cussed old sod, but was a proper character and we all loved him lots ...
This is how I want to remember him .. a life well lived .. RIP old fellah
@nytimes
I was speaking to a foreign chap in a coffee shop who said "percifically" rather than "specifically" ... I was most impressed with the Constable who dragged him away..
