Tried to send some chocolate down the pathology chute for the lab but they weren’t happy we didn’t label the specimens.
Recollected and sent. Always remember to label your samples!

Every doctor, nurse, paramedic, medical student, physio, etc I know would immediately get this diagnosis in seconds. It's borderline criminally negligent to have missed this.. 😬
A young woman died as a result of a barndoor pulmonary embolism presentation missed on two occasions, under the impression that she had been seen by a GP.
This is not the standard we should comfortably walk past.

I handle fentanyl often at work. No problems.
But it's a controlled drug locked in a safe at work. I can't just take it out to please internet trolls. 🙄
Plus it would be incredibly unprofessional to be recording videos like that while on shift. Got better things to do...
@drphiliplee1
Nokia: Built a really good ventilator back in 2000. ICU still has half a dozen on a shelf in the store room just in case. All still have half a battery charge. Has one tone for all alarms.
@noodles_nood
For people wanting context, here in Australia I earn more than double that while in the lowest paid state.
As a locum in Australia I could easily earn 5x that working 40 hours a week (or more)
It's no wonder why I work with tons of British docs who left the
@NHS
.. 😬😕
@jaskMS3
No one should be doing 24 hour shifts. It's dangerous for the patient and the worker. Should be illegal.
I suggest going somewhere that doesn't have these shifts once you can.
@YourMajestyVee
I always tell people the best experience I got before being a doctor for working in emergency, was working front of house in pubs and restaurants. Good customer service skills go a long way in ED..
Really regretting taking this year for full time locum work. It's stupidly lonely. Barely see my friends. And has contributed to ending my relationship.
Can't wait for 2023 to be over already. This year sucks.
@stillgray
Not illegal in Australia, where
@purplepingers
lives
In fact there are laws that support this
And it seems fair, if you don't realize someone is living in a property you own for 12 years, is it really your property? 🤷🏼♂️😅
When I fail the primary exam tomorrow it’s going to be due to questions like this.
I know the incubation period of Hep B is from a few weeks to several months. Apparently that knowledge isn’t good enough to be an emergency doc.
😐🔫
@EmiliaTerzon
Uhhh.. would love to slow things down in the emergency department but hate to break it to you, pandemic isn't over. More people are dying from COVID now then ever in Aus. Every hospital is swamped with patients and short staffed.
How are we going to slow it down?
A GP clinic in

seriously even with lose case numbers!
@AlanaKinrich
That's a super weird thing to call you out for... What are they even going at?
(But yes, same in Australia. 16G butterfly style needle and a bit of tape to hold the tube while you donate)
Got a pulse and blood pressure back at the rhythm check while doing compressions today.
And the fastest central line of my life.
How f*cking good is emergency medicine?!?!
Shifts like today are the reason I do this job! 😀🚑🚨💉🩺

Apple: Smooth glass design. Has touch screen interface that’s intuitive to use. You buy a protective case for it. Needs an adapter to connect to standard circuits. Stops working 9 months later after you update its software.
@WrayCharles
Things I've learned in emergency medicine
'I don't know the diagnosis but I don't want to send them home' is a perfectly good reason to refer someone for admission (especially with Paeds!)
@Conservatives
3️⃣ Today’s offer is final.
There will be no more talks on pay.
This country will not be bullied into higher taxes or higher borrowing to fund unrealistic pay demands, risking higher inflation.
So tomorrow night I'll be in charge of the Royal

Why do you have to tell anyone that?! Who TF wears white to someone else's wedding?!
That's as bad as proposing at someone else's wedding 🙄
Things I learned today:
Nitrous oxide / oxygen cylinders (AKA Entonox) can separate out into layers in cold weather if left undisturbed.
Can lead to giving pure N2O to a patient and making them hypoxic.
Good thing we don’t keep ours outside.. 🤷🏻♂️

doctor here! 🙋🏻♂️
Gentamicin is a great antibiotic when used appropriately under the direction of a medical professional
Like any medication it may cause allergic reactions, mild to severe. But to be fair life threatening reactions can be caused by peanuts as well 🤷🏻♂️
Always find it funny when people think private health care is better than public..
Sure it's faster to get your ACL repair done
But I wouldn't trust any private hospital with caring for my family or myself, seen too many disaster patients transferred from private hospitals..
@charliersmith1
As an

doctor I’m on the other side. I’ve sedated patients against their will and admitted them involuntarily to the mental health unit.
It’s great to see someone on the other side. Great to know we are helping overall. 🙂 Very happy for you!

@bloomwithvee
Just on this gentamicin thing.. I gave this to a patient in

on my shift yesterday for a urinary tract infection that had spread up to the kidney (aka pyelonephritis).
They got better. No allergic reaction. No side effect. Just felt a lot better and later when home. 👍🏻
Put in a brachial arterial line today for the first time in months! 😀👍🏻

Went to a below average public school in a small country town.. The only high school in town.
We didn’t have a ‘head boy’ or ‘head girl’
Even if we did, how the hell are my high school grades from 15 years ago at all relevant today? Who cares? 🙄
Neighbour just had a go at me for sitting on my balcony during my

Apparently I'm coughing all over their laundry hanging outside their unit (across the driveway, across a fence, on their property)
How long till they call public health / police on us? 🫤
For the first time in my life I’ve given a key to my apartment to my girlfriend.
I’m not nervous! I’m kinda hoping she uses it to surprise me!

Weather is nice
Dual battery / solar on my car can charge my laptop and phone easily

80Gb data on my cell plan
Few tourists out
Could take my gear to study while camping? 🏕🚙🌊🌲

So based on this, if I tag my partner in a post while we are on a hike, or at a winery, or anywhere.. my account gets suspended?
Have you put even 5 min of thought into your wording of this?
I don’t see how this is even a question
For every medical job I’ve had in Australia (including jobs in VIC, ACT, NT, SA, and TAS) I’ve had to prove vaccination records for MMR, ADT, Flu, Hep, etc. Plus TB screening and more
Already standard practice in healthcare
#COVID19Aus
AMA President Dr Omar Khorshid earlier today held a doorstop press conference to further call on National Cabinet to further strengthen the healthcare system from COVID by ensuring all healthcare workers and staff are vaccinated.
@plastic_baggy17
This is why we don’t do CPR when it’s clearly futile. At least in Aus / NZ..
Doctors can limit care based on medical grounds. Even if the patient / family want X treatments done, if they are not medically indicated or clearly futile we don’t have to do it..
@Cignaquestions

Have you advised your patients it is cheaper for them to fly to
#Australia
, enjoy a holiday, get their scan done, pay for it, and fly home?
Cause $19,000 for a CT is outrageous and should be criminal.
This is the population pyramid for the Gaza Strip

Those are the people being cut off from food, water, medical supplies, electricity.
Children. Nearly a million children.

How do Americans seriously think an 80 hour work week is safe and reasonable?
Absolutely wild to anyone outside America that you consider this safe for patients.
You don't allow pilots and truck drivers to do that for the public safety risk. But doctors are immune?
And how the fuck does memorizing shit like this make someone a better doctor?
If I have a patient with possible Hep B exposure 184 days ago I’m not going to tell them ‘it isn’t Hep B, the incubation is only 182 days.’
I should go back to being a bar tender..

Like if you don't realize your house has been lived in by someone else for more than 12 years I think it seems fair that it's not your house anymore 🤷🏼♂️
Heard an antivaxer refer to him and his unvaccinated partner at 'pure bloods'
I don't care what the context is, anyone who refers to themselves as a pure blood should be on a domestic terror watch list

I'm not an engineer but I'm seriously worried the excavation next door is going to cause my driveway to collapse and destroy my car and maybe the house
Pretty sure a 500mm unsupported gap under my driveway slab is bad right?
Parts already collapsing into drilled holes

I saw a patient die today. Not of
#COVID19
. But it caught me off guard when I thought that if she had died of COVID the first thing the government / media would say is that she was elderly and had underlying health issues
As if that makes it any less tragic..
