My hospital is requiring overtime. Lots of people keep bringing up that they have families and responsibilities.
I'm sorry, but my time is not any less valuable than those who have children.
In ICU? Absolutely not. I have found plenty of surprises when lifting a patient gown/blanket. Or how many patients end up in isolation from some infection the next day... always gloves 🤢
@lou_nautic
How is it my responsibility as a coworker? You think people without children should work all the holidays? Should I have to pick up MORE so that those without children don't have to?
The point is stop trying use my lack of children to invalidate my free time
All these adopt don't shop die-hards are always real quiet when I tell them I literally tried to adopt a dog but was denied because our yard wasn't fenced in.
@Polemoniumeximi
I can't relate to this. I like spending time with my dogs, my boyfriend, and aging parents. I'm not planning on having children and I'm also not planning on picking up extra so everyone else can enjoy their life for the rest of my life
This fentanyl hysteria has got to stop. Until recently I have never had any family members NOT want an intubated and sedated patient to be given fentanyl. But recently whenever I say they're getting fentanyl I literally have to talk them off ledge 😵💫
#DamarHamlim
is a great example on how CPR works great for acute cardiac events. CPR saves lives, but it isn't going to work the same way on a 80 year old in *multi system organ failure*
Is it bad to comment
"Didn't u literally do meth?" On someone's post about not getting the vaccine because we don't know the long term side effects
Bc I am sooooo close
Alright. Enough Facebook tonight.
"it has a 99% survival rate!!!" Annoys the SHIT out of me.
What about the people who get intubated, put on ecmo, trach'ed and have to live in a nursing home??
People who spew this shit don't get it. Even being intubated for a few days has a long course of recovery
why do i get so pissed when people make the "bullies in highschool became nurses" comment?
Nurses are treated like shit by patients, physicians, administration, etc. And we literally just suck it up and keep smiling.
Saw a Twitter exchange about med students/docs & tasks "below them" meanwhile in my ICU if I come to the door looking for help& no other RNs available almost always our NPs/fellows/attendings offer to help. I have had attendings help me with baths/turns bc they are decent humans
ICU nursing is just me squinting at the monitor for an extended period of time deciding if something is real and if it is real, if it lasts long enough for me do something about it 🤨🤨🧐
i get really angry when people make comments about me sleeping all the time or being "lazy"
I. WORK. NIGHTS.
Just because i sleep during the DAY doesnt mean i "Sleep all the time / (All day)" or that i'm "LAZY".
In fact i often go 24-36 hrs without SLEEP.
Life sucks. I'm being forced to pick up tons of OT. I'm watching people die alone without their family. Dealing with unsafe staffing, all while people call me a liar about this virus. Or when they tell me I need to educate myself...I can feel my fucking blood boil I get so mad.
Everytime we're short-staffed we should get paid whatever nurses short we are amongst the staff there. Like 3 nurses short? Take what you would have paid 3 nurses and give it to staff for doing the work of 10 nurses with only having 7.
Just my opinion
In the last week there has been huge threads about:
Nurses being stupid
Nurses not deserving a living wage
And now, how all nurses were bullies in highschool.
I hate social media sometimes
Healthcare staff shouldn't have to preform CPR on patients who we have already deemed too sick to recover.
CPR doesn't work in multi system organ failure.
It's not fair to the patient and it's not fair to the staff who are involved in the resuscitation.
again, please stop going out of your way to tell me about all the young healthcare providers who are currently on ventilators.
i wish i could go 5 mins without having a fucking anxiety attack or feeling of impending doom
i know how serious this is but i didnt fucking ask
weirdly specific things popular with influencers that i think is actually child abuse:
family of 6 living in an RV
large families, making older siblings care for younger one
crunchy moms not taking their fucking children to doctors
@Ketron13
@Polemoniumeximi
Lmao this is bullshit. I am 1000% not bending over backwards for a job I am disposable for and coworkers who will never return the favor

i should make like an anti nurse influencer video. Like instead of them showing you their super sophisticated nurse report/handoff sheet
i just show you the piece of blank paper i grabbed from the printer then i look for a pen for 5 minutes
Almost all of my married friends don't share their finances. They have a dual account they both put money into and honestly this seems to be the way to go considering how many couples fight over/about $$. My parents constantly fought about $$
The MAGAs who claim Jill Biden isn't a Dr. because of her PhD are the same people who call a female physician a nurse, even though she introduced herself as the physician.
*Patient is brought up for hypotension*
Nurse: do you know who the president is?
Patient: I'd rather not say
Nurse: c'mon it'll help raise your blood pressure 😂🤭
I've come to realize the people who make the comment "nurses were bullies in highschool" are also the same person who would verbally abuse a nurse inside the hospital
And this this how they justify calling a nurse a "bitch"
🤔
@caspxal
From an infection control standpoint gloves are basically pointless unless they're sterile. But that's typically not why gloves are worn. Gloves should be worn to protect the HCW from coming into contact with bodily fluids (which could be almost always in ICU)
Imagine taking a picture of a healthcare worker without their permission for simply doing their job and existing.
People have no idea how to be a decent fucking person nowadays.
"when you start paying taxes and become a homeowner you will become a republican"
Ummm I've owned my home for 3 years , just wondering when I'm going to turn?
What other career is so disrespected than nurses
I worked so hard for my bachelor's and other certs only to be told
"Whatever, you just clean up shit"
🙄🙄
crazy how antivax folk refuse to get the covid vaccine because it's still in emergency use approval by the FDA but love vitamins, supplements and essential oils
Shocking that non of these are approved or regulated by the FDA 😲
No, we aren't. Just because someone pops up in your suggested friends does not mean they have searched your name. Literally who cares but also who has time for that??
If you have a new doctor or a hospital stay in your future, make sure all your socials are set to private. Nurses are absolutely looking you up, especially during longer stays.
Things i wished techs understood: I'm not being lazy because i asked you to bring room 2 a glass of water. I have about 8,000 things i need to chart...Meds i need to give, labs i need to look at, pages i need to send. It may look like i'm just "sitting here"...but im not
I also have beef with HCWs who ask patients to have "respectful language"
(Obviously this doesn't apply to a patient using cuss words AT you)
But like, if it hurts go ahead and drop those F bombs
I need someone to do like an actual research study about y old ppl have to dump the fucking pill in their hand from a med cup and then proceed to lose/drop it EVERY TIME??? EVERY SINGLE TIME like i gave you ONE PILL WHY DID U NEED TO PUT IT IN UR HAND???
i honestly need to leave ICU. but the issue is i literally cant think of anything i would do instead. i have adhd, so i dont thrive well with routine jobs or environments that involve keeping yourself on track.
i love critical care but i cant do this anymore
why do i get so pissed when people ask me if im going back to school. I have my bachelors degree. No other career do people constantly get asked this. i want to be a NURSEE!!
Ohio doctor that was facing 14 counts of murder for intentionally prescribing 1000 mcgs fentanyl, 10mg versed, 4mg of Dilaudid to recently extubated comfort patients found not guilty but
#RaDondaVaught
is still guilty for an accident she made
arguing that nurses do not need experience to get advanced nursing degrees.
i learned more the first 3 months on the job than i did my entire time at nursing school.
this is why prior experience so SO IMPORTANT!!!
@NursePatMacRN
@CnsGolino
work experience is not education, and by requiring it as educators are further creating gender/race/disability divides in our profession
I wish those who didn't work in healthcare could understand how serious covid is. Can't even really use scare tactics because I'm afraid of violating hipaa. I'm just tired
If someone saw this behavior happen to a Starbucks barista they would record it, put it online to dox them... Someone would probably find where they work and they would get fired for their behavior
But if this happens to a healthcare worker it's totally normal and even condoned
I’m saying it once again for the people in the back: a patient cursing at you is not abuse!!!
Abuse = physical harm, racial slurs, other threats of violence, sexual assault/harassment
Someone saying “f**k you” when they are having the worst day of their life is not abuse!
My facility developed it's own covid test, talking less than 12 hrs to come back. Also sent out an email stating if anyone calls in sick it's not counted as an accurance, because they want sick staff to stay home.Thankful I work here.
I would be supportive of people who were ACTUALLY vaccine hesitant if they were masking and social distancing... but the people refusing the vaccine are the same people throwing temper tantrums about having to wear a mask in a store.
They just don't give a shit and never will
@lou_nautic
Unfortunately maybe you don't understand my perspective because you have children. I can go on forever the times when I have been guilted to pick up Christmas or Thanksgiving because i don't have children.
The issue is EVERYONE has responsibilities, regardless of kids or not.
*nurse on TikTok talking about how they staff liver transplants as 2:1s*
I said that seems excessive 🤔
and she told me I must not work at a hospital that transplants high meld scores
😅😅😅 (For reference I work at the hospital the meld score was literally created)
Day nurse tells me that patient has refused all turns all day.
THEY ARE CONFUSED AF!! They cannot consent or make the decision to refuse care like that 😩😩😩😩😡
unpopular opinion: 15 year olds going on "mission trips" does more harm than good. also it's exploitation to take pictures with them and post them on facebook
i said what i said 🤷♀️
Well, 6 of my co-workers (all who have 5+ yrs experience) are leaving. My other coworkers are all incredibly burnt out, so am i...but why? Its not covid (anymore)
Why are we still pushing bedside report? I don't mind doing a gtt check and brief handoff afterwards but I need a quiet environment where I'm able to ask questions and discuss sensitive info
@meemodoteth
I'm sorry to break it to you but I don't think there would be anyone left to work in ICUs or ERs. I would argue that being TOO emotionally invested is worse off for our patients. I am still a great nurse just because I can displace my feelings and not get invested
@MavisnMavis
This isn't an infection control issue I'm talking about, I am talking about potential exposures to bodily fluids (that you should absolutely be wearing gloves for)
Watching all the lawyer question ICU nurses on the "take care of Maya " trial absolutely makes me want to leave bedside. Outrageous questions being asked. The general public has no idea that nurses really don't have a say about diagnosis, medications, etc
@VirginiaTranMD
So the answer is...yes? This was a perfectly acceptable question and I don't understand the context of this tweet.
How is the nurse supposed to know if you're the surgeon or with infectious disease?
literally everyone online: nursing is EASy. anyone can go to nursing school. nurses just follow Drs ORDERS. BULLIES
every family member of the pt im caring for : 👁️👄👁️
"i have no idea how you manage all this equipment and medication y'all are amazing and so smart"
I have worked in a Neuro/trauma ICU, ER, and now a transplant ICU and never in my entire life have I ever checked a license to see if my patient is an organ donor 🙄
an attending put in a NG tube for me. After it was in i said "Oh i can take it from here to secure it"
Turns out he was a nurse for 10 years!! Told me he was very capable of doing it himself 😝
@grahamwalker
@_nursewretched_
You shouldn't even be disclosing that said patient is even currently at the hospital. I advocate for my patients, not law enforcement
