i work on drivers, hdr/colour, linux kernel, gamescope, dxvk and vkd3d-proton, old games.

noise is data.
it might not be data *you* want, but the challenge asked for the compression to be lossless.
removing the noise violates that constraint.
the data must be bit for bit 1:1.
PS5 players will soon be able to join Discord voice chat directly from their console (rolling out in the coming weeks)
Profile share also rolling out starting next week (share PSN profile to any messaging or social app with a link or QR code)
It's so, so heartwarming to see such great reviews on the device and features I've spent the last year working on.
Thank you so much

Steam Deck OLED is a phenomenal improvement over the launch model: a 90Hz OLED with HDR, big battery life improvements, improved thermals and so much more. Here's the Digital Foundry video review:
Half-Life turns 25 this weekend, and we're pushing a big update to bring back some of that 1998 feeling with restored original launch day content, brand new multiplayer maps, a look behind the scenes with the original development team, and more:
Dear people making video games:
You don't need to use cards. We use cards in real life as a crutch. They suck. Stop bringing them into games.
You can do the same mechanics with ANYTHING ELSE infinitely more interesting than cards.
Valve should have removed 4:3 for CS2.
I'm so, so damn tired of seeing streams and videos with 4:3 stretched to 16:9.
Competitive players will do anything for placebo... *sigh*
We are proud to announce the first release of VPhysics Jolt (Volt⚡️)
VPhysics Jolt is a replacement for standard IVP/Havok VPhysics in Source by me(
@phys_ballsocket
) and
@Slartbarty
and is massively more performant and handles way more objects!
Cocoon gets BEST DEBUT INDIE game, yeah? DEBUT as in from Jeppe Carlsen, the LINBO/INSIDE guy and INDIE like Annapurna?!
I have no doubt it's probably a good game, but Geoff, come on man.
Pizza Tower was robbed.
another day, another shitty A/B test I can't opt-out of.
none of you ever ask for my feedback, you just make us suffer for some silicon valley project manager's amusement.
found this ancient image of when I was doing the Half-Life 2 Steam Deck update where there was a bug that just made the Jalopy Radar a huge B Button glyph
@lookoutitsbbear
@usrbinishan
ok, so you know the problem, didn't like it, changed the rules so the compression can be lossy and remove the noise in the original signal, and then said you did better and "it's lossless" even though you know it wasn't?..
The issue with the TF2 x64 Update getting false-positived is really just there were a few SDK tools in there that are not signed like the main game.
Building *anything* with modern MSVC triggers AV these days...
Here's what the signed version looks like:
@lookoutitsbbear
@usrbinishan
you don't even know if the ""data"" you extracted is what they wanted out of the signal. you just blindly decomposed to some wavelets that ended up looking nice that you thought was what they wanted.
what you consider "noise", is not relevant to the challenge. it's all data.
You should like... leave the industry. For good. Never come back. We don't need you here.
This is not a joke or a bit. I am deathly serious. If this is your opinion, I hope you never write or work on anything anyone touches in any capacity.
You cannot be trusted.
New blog post "Google: Stop Burning Counterterrorism Operations"
My reflection on an incident where Project Zero and TAG knowingly shut down an active Western counterterrorism cyber operation, and the real-world harm that could have resulted from it.
Google's pathetic attempt to kill/limit adblockers & userscripts by removing ManifestV2 is embarassing and the engineers that worked on that project should be ashamed of themselves (same with those assholes that worked on Web Environment Integrity)
Malicious, arbitrary limits.
I’m going to be at again this year. I had read books from and twitter-interacted with three of the authors (more since!), but I wasn’t sure what to expect last year. It turned out fun, in a grass-roots con way that reminded me of the old Space Access days.
Lowest tier model of Steam Deck still comes with 16GB of ram at $399/£349 (new) or £279 (official refurbished)...
How Apple can ship with half of that in a $1600 laptop is just so wild to me.
I was really expecting the bare minimum of Bethesda to fix Fallout 4 running at > 60fps for the "next-gen" update.
My mistake, I forgot that delta time and accumulation is one of the unsolved problems of computer science.

I love it when they say "not all disabilities are visible" and keep the door locked. Peak fucking irony.
I get super bad nosebleeds often and running up to a locked fucking disabled toilet has happened too many times.
It is so sad but also so fucking funny that Google can't commit to doing ANYTHING these days.
Like ah, yes, my multi-trillion dollar company with hundreds of thousands of employees can't ever commit to maintain and see through a single project for more than a couple years... LOL
Google had a multi-year plan to migrate the AOSP build system completely over to Bazel, but this project was cancelled late last year.
In a statement to OEMs last year, Google said "in a recent review of our progress, we concluded that the conversion to Bazel would take a lot
If you think this, you have never developed an OS and had to solve this problem.
The amount of displays there the top res + top refresh doesn't work due to bandwidth because bad cable, dsc memes, max pixel clock of active adapters or is some garbage 4096x DCI 4K garbage... argh!
there is only one conclusion out of this.
this is a horrible UX and the only ones who should be embarrassed here are the devs responsible for NOT making Windows set maximum available resolution (w/ appropriate scaling) and refresh rate by default when u plug in a new monitor
We have clearly learnt nothing from the XZ attack. This is sus as fuck.
- Implements a change to add Node 4 (ancient) support
- Replaces a bunch of deps with his own that have their own network
- Some deps are versioned

I love seeing PRs that add an extra 16 dependencies to the Svelte compiler and make load more slowly for everyone so that a single developer can keep running Node 0.4!
Friends don't let friends use Microsoft or Google Authenticator.
Check out Ageis Authenticator for a good open-source solution on Android that's packed with features.
I agree:
When I inquired about licensing Source 2, I got told to "talk to Facepunch about using s&box."
As much as I love some of my friends that work on s&box, it absolutely is not a valid replacement for a Source 2 SDK.
Here is DEATH STRANDING DC running with HDR on Linux!
It's hard to show off HDR... so have a HDR Heatmap to go along with it!
Anything not greyscale is brighter than 100 nits. 🌞🐸
New Linux gaming milestone: with the latest work from Josh Ashton, HDR can now be enabled for real games! Tested it tonight on my AMD desktop with Halo Infinite, Deep Rock Galactic, DEATH STRANDING DC. Very early and will still need some time to bake to be useful to most.
Glad it's finally out there!
Proud to have contributed to this and worked with some amazing people on it!
Even though I contributed to this (dxvk, vkd3d-proton, some mesa stuff, and tooling etc) I am super hype! :D
Just an idea: maybe you should stop buying every god damn game studio, realising that it's totally unmaintainable long-term and shutting them down over and over and over again.
fun fact: models in the source engine can each have up to 2.147 billion mouths and up to 4,611,686,000,000,000,000 eyeballs (up to 2.147 billion eyeballs per body part)
I got Linux running INSIDE Team Fortress 2 VScript by writing a RISC-V implementation in Squirrel.
Thanks to
@cnlohr
for the original mini-rv32ima project!
Some people REALLY have HUDs that have the auto aim hud from HL2 (CHUDAutoAim) as an element which stopped working on the 64-bit port of TF because it relied on getting lucky treating the C_TFPlayer as a C_BaseHLPlayer to early out and do nothing x_x
Joys of any 64-bit port! :D
@ZooL_Smith
We have done a lot of fixes for older mods, many are working now, and we are still working on it.
There's probably going to be something we didn't catch, and we still want players to be able to play while it is still being worked on.
Announcing frog-protocols: Let's create Wayland Protocols but much more iterative.
Wayland Protocols has long had a problem with new protocols sitting for months, to years at a time for even basic functionality such as VSync being broken.
Let's fix that!
As if I needed more reasons to think Microsoft allowing random idiots who aren't IHVs to sign kernel drivers was a terrible idea that has had disastrous consequences.
Thank you CrowdStrike.
- Extremely hostile to criticism about the situation.
Guy is sus as fuck. I wouldn't trust this with a 10ft pole.
If he isn't a threat, maybe don't be a cringey defensive weirdo about your change that is only negative and fucking stupid.

Next you will be telling me this 20MB .cfg file that was called MegaFPSBoost_Final.cfg and the D3D11_MAGIC_MULTITHREADING=1 env var and the -fps 10000 -nostall -high +mat_threaded_bones 1 +mod_async_vcollide 1 +mat_dxlevel 9001 -dxlevel 9001 -fast2 arguments aren't helping 🙄
I'm so tired of apps not having Space be the dedicated play/pause key like the good old days.
No, I did not want to select the "Watch Later" or "Mute" button...
I pressed Space cause I wanted to Play/Pause the damn video like in 2005 when people wrote software that worked!
With the release we are providing builds for both Garry's Mod 64-bit and Source SDK 2013 32-bit.
You can grab the latest release here:
Happy frogging! 🐸⚡️
Shipped the first official release of DXVK Native (1.9.1a) today with Steam Runtime builds and an actual README!
DXVK Native lets you use DXVK without Wine, so you can use it in native ports, or for port bringup!
Check it out! 🐸
We just launched DXVK 2.0, with support for Graphics Pipeline Libraries (no more stutter!), Native Linux Builds and much much more!
Check it out! 🐸🧑🚀✨
The past week, I have been working on an APITrace implementation for Direct3D 12.
Check out my blog post describing the story, implementation and problems I encountered along the way!
SteamOS 3.5.8 just released with a fix for colours in Steam In-Home Streaming, gpu clocks on the perf overlay, better frame timings on the perf overlay, and a whole bunch of stutter/perf fixes!
Check it out!
Goes without saying, but *please* do not go after the devs of Cocoon for this.
I am sure it is a great game and the developers (and anyone, actually) are definitely not deserving of hate/review bombing, etc for this.
If you use my tweet to promote that I will hunt you down.
My Pixel 5 started randomly bootlooping, even when I was in bootloader/recovery constantly.
Out of desparation I googled "pixel 5 randomly bootlooping reddit"
Some dude says to just bash the power button against a table a bunch to fix.
It fixed it...

i've had enough. of the welder blackmailing.
stop buying fabrication tables. it's not real. you're not a welder. i'm sorry
Discord needs to fire all their terrible UI designers.
All they do is make everything continually worse.
You used to be able to DM people by clicking them and starting to type. Easy!
Now? Oh, we added a random button you have to click for no reason :v
Useless extra click!

pressure campaign are losers and goons. They're the cool kids from junior high who worked to exclude we nerds from cool kid events, plus the losers who joined in to gain cred. The elite-only verification system sucked, been criticizing it since 2018.
