Yes which is why in practice they use lossy. But if you’re trying to do the challenge it needs to be lossless

16b to 10b, then get diffs, then entropy based on diffs, and finally theoretical compressed byte size based on entropy. I have a list of the theoretical max compressed sizes for each file. feel free to query

you may find it interesting to note that in practice neuralink actually does incredibly lossy compression: each electrode only reports back whether a spike happened or not in a 15ms window. 1b data!

here's the assumption being made: that the diffs between samples after the 16b-10b conversion are i.i.d. this is not actually true but it is close to true since at a small scale the diffs between samples is essentially noise

Implemented sha256 in hardware! Gave myself this task yesterday. Turns out fixing bugs in hashing algos is tough because the slightest mistake completely changes the result.
(for context, when cpus offer specialized instructions this is how they're actually implemented)

i've been given this challenge where I have to program a risc-v cpu onto an fpga, get it to run linux, then have it interface with a custom led peripheral using axi-lite and i've never done any fpga work so my head is exploding but I think I will learn much
