Another thing I love about Twitter is that buried my replies is a transoceanic sailboat racer who’s actually a expert on Gyres. Like I’m fairly sure Columbus was somewhat aware of Gyres as well as that’s how the Spanish traveled to the Canary Islands!

I really find this amusing because during the Civil Rights movement the Marchs were always announced in advance and were not just done on the spot and in surprise to disrupt traffic! They had this thing called discipline which was a major reason their movement was so effective!

Hamas just killed a teenager for working with the Israeli left to try and organize for peace. And it’s social democratic in the sense they steal from widows and children to feed militants. And there hasn’t been a election or other legal political parties since 2007.
gaza is a normal place. it’s culturally conservative and has its share of political problems, but its government, when it functions, generally avoids taking positions on contentious issues and tries to maintain a social-democratic welfare state for its massive refugee population

I think it’s interesting how generally academia is left/-leaning but then universities by and large treat their Grad Students/Adjuncts far far worse than most for-profit corporations/Fortune 500 companies treat their employees/contractors.
Please do not let administrators see this. The only reason they haven’t moved adjunct professors’ pay to a tip-based model is they haven’t thought of it yet.
