@Papapishu
life in prison seems pretty cruel for just hacking things... I don't think he did anything that posed danger to anyone? except corporations...

Our dear Komarin is getting popular overseas, so I’ll be translating the reaction images into English for fans worldwide to use. Enjoy.

The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess (Hikikomari) will be broadcast Saturday on its main network, TOKYO MX, as usual. As such, times for the
@HIDIVEofficial
simulcast should not change.
This is only a broadcast change for MBS.
Some anime animation (“sakuga”) fans know lots about animation but little about production. They can be quick to criticise studios or staff when an anime doesn’t look as good as they expected, for delays, or for use of contractors—all usually due to lack of time, staff, or funds
@viperwave
I have used memes in translations before—it’s not really worth it 90% of the time, but there are definitely situations where it can be useful, such as the original sentence being a Japanese meme
@Yuyucow
Like we talked about before, it sucks to see people focus on Mappa, but you’re right in that having money and high standards means they get to exploit more labour. I’d hope this helps expose the problems in the industry.. But lots of newer animators will still work on their shows
@ByYourLogic
lol, Netflix Japan also just put out a short animated movie with AI-generated backgrounds because of a “labour shortage” too, i really don’t want to give them any more money
@Yuyucow
As someone who is working on 3 anime this season and talking to the teams regularly, I honestly feel a little annoyed that other studios aren’t getting the same sympathy or attention that MAPPA gets, especially when MAPPA has resources to meet deadlines where small studios don’t
To clarify, this is not a union, but a public interest group (社団法人). Anyone can enter and become a part of the group via their website.
Its goal is to promote and act in the common interest of the industry, not completely focus on improving work conditions and well-being.
We, Nippon Anime & Film Culture Association (

@Yuyucow
I have found the focus on Jujutsu Kaisen’s poor schedule to be very disheartening, when almost every anime at every other studio is in a similar or perhaps even worse situation. I don’t mean you specifically, but talking about it may be enforcing the idea that it’s a special case
@Yuyucow
Ironically, the increase in sakuga fans online is making anime fans have even higher expectations for animation, meaning studios have to work even harder than before to make things look perfect so as not to attract criticism from people who seemingly care about the workers
It really is rude and unprofessional to nitpick (and especially post screenshots) of things that look “bad” in other projects when you’re an animator, and it doesn’t make you look smart or help your chances of being offered work either
@viperwave
I translated a bunch of reaction images for a show at this year, and a producer told me I could make them meme-y if it led to people using them more, but it felt kinda weird to force them in
I only ended up doing it once here (かかってこい - a casual way of saying “Bring it on”)
For foreign animators
When writing an invoice, here is some information you should provide:
1. The name used to open your bank account (in Romaji)
2. The bank name (i.e HSBC)
3. The bank account number
4. The branch/transit number
4. The bank’s SWIFT code
5. The branch’s address
@henry_thurlow
I was really happy to see all of the foreign names in the credits! I went out of my way to use foreign animators when working as a PA last year. Here's to hoping we can get more foreign animators working on anime from here on out.
@380kmh
I used to work part-time at a JR station. I know what you mean in regards to getting people causing trouble off trains
People seem to think you’re saying “I want people killed”, but you’re really just saying “I don’t want people to cause trouble on public transit”
The reality is that studios are given money by producers and a deadline to make something. It isn’t always the studio’s fault if they can’t do what you expect. I’m sure this is common sense to some but it bears repeating
I hope that the work I’m doing in the anime industry will be able to change things a little, and hopefully start to bridge the gap between Japanese studios and foreign animators some more. I don’t think my work alone will do much, but I want to help change the system a little.
Bigger studios having better deadlines is also a myth. Some huge anime in the past year had awful schedules. Part of the problem is that bigger studios are expected to produce consistent quality where it’s not always possible so they have to rush to patch things up
Thank you for watching The Vexations of a Vampire Princess! We did our best under the circumstances to provide a nice experience for everyone.
A special thanks to all the foreign animators who helped us out as well.
We’ll keep working to provide corrections for the BD release.
As much as I would like for there to be unions for anime in Japan, this is still a good step towards that, and serves to promote and protect the overall culture. It could potentially work in conjunction with a union if one is ever formed.
@380kmh
It’s awful that he had to die. I think there should be more promotion of asking employees for assistance or using ‘help’ buttons (whatever they have in NYC) to resolve these issues. In my experience, non-employees stepping in tends to make the situation worse
@Amphibi12059933
I think his heart is in the right place… but it really doesn’t mean anything if you boycott just one studio. It also annoys me that nobody is willing to speak out against other places.
@henry_thurlow
Honestly I’m surprised by the amount of replies you get on every post in general. I’ve only been following you for like a week now and everything you post on here gets a negative response
There were a lot of foreign animators (10+?) on this week’s episode of Hikikomari. I wasn’t the PA, so I only served as an interpreter/translator for everyone, but it was very nice working with you all.
