"the truth is complicated". lmao she made some very basic and milquetoast criticisms of games and got absolutely crucified for it. it's not all that complicated actually.
Over a decade ago Anita Sarkeesian became the most despised woman on the Internet with the rise of her YouTube show Feminist Frequency. but was the hate justified?. The truth is complicated, so after countless hours of research I made a 90 minute video detailing my findings.

speaking as someone who grew up in a fundamentalist evangelical home, i think most leftists not familiar with that culture absolutely don't understand how incredibly horny (in all the grossest ways) purity culture actually is.
"Purity culture" isn't just being "anti-sex." It's about reifying women as existing for male sexual use, and then privatizing and regulating that access. It's about enforcing heterosexuality and maintaining a male supremacist society where husbands have utter control over wives.

the "woman" was a pregnant 18yo in a profoundly conservative and patriarchal culture you shameless fucking ghoul.
The woman who died in Texas came from an anti-choice family and was supposedly pro-abortion ban herself. After her avoidable death, her mother is quoted as asking “why didn’t they help the miscarriage along?” . They never think the leopards are going to eat their face.

i've spent a lot of my life pretty lonely and yet i've never sexually assaulted anyone. loneliness doesn't cause sexual violence, rapists and abusers do. really tired of sexual violence being framed as secondary to some deeper issue (loneliness, poverty, etc).
i would like to add that this is a cyclical problem. fascism will create loneliness, creating more predators, and in this case, more predators will make more violence. your quick and violence fueled dopamine hits arent worth making the situation worse.

people act like feminism has this simplistic "woman inherently good, man inherently bad" analysis but actually a huge part of feminism is literally just asking "how do we criticize shitty patriarchal women without falling into the many misogynistic traps inherent to such a Q?".
“He's not a rapist": at the Pelicot trial, these women have come to support their accused husbands:.

the amount of himpathy y’all have for teen boys sexually exploiting girls is fucking wild.
Arresting 13 and 14 year olds for "deep fakes," labeling them sex offenders for life, throwing them out as irredeemable trash while they are still children, and ruining their remaining decades on this earth will not address the problem. But it will ruin a lot more lives.

@vivtheTgirl @darth_helga @catalystcomett ok. greco-roman men were very into raping little boys and socially subjugated males (slaves, non-citizens). they very much were not "gay" or "queer", they saw being penetrated as the worse possible fate and this is evidence of how much they loved all the rape they were doing.

masculinity is inherently violent. and no, i am not interested in abstract, idealist hypotheticals about a "healthy masculinity" in some post-patriarchy (where apparently the gender binary still exists??). such a thing has never existed and there is no reason to believe it could.
@adathelearner If you think men are inherently violent you arguably never started being a feminist.

proshippers: fiction doesn't affect reality! fapping it to cartoon ch*ld p*rn doesn't affect how you view and treat children in any way! . also proshippers: *proceeds to treat anyone they perceive as a minor with the utmost contempt and arrogance to "put them in their place"*.
@gaptoothsupreme @_x_Silas_x_ You are a minor interacting with adults in adult spaces that you willingly interact with and them blames the adults you interact with from putting you on your place. Yeah I'm sure the dumb one lmao.

@benzostraydogs @queersocialism you're literally doing the thing where pointing out an oppressive situation (women *are* treated as only good for sex & reproductive) is framed as somehow creating and/or supporting that oppressive situation.

"young people who think my generation is creepy for constantly sexually pursuing them are basically like fascists".
Zoomers are such a doomed generation. Half of them are incel MAGA degenerates who want to repeal the 19th amendment, and the other half think a 30 year old dating a 25 year old is predatory.

describing the patterns of behavior through which men have historically constructed and maintained a violent gender hierarchy is not bioessentialism actually 🙄.
@sandhimafia People would rather scream and cry bioessentialist reasons why men are inherently evil and women are inherently not instead of doing any real thinking about any societal factors and how we can progress.

"we can't punish rapists bc reactionaries call all queer people rapists" is such a tired & ridiculous take. queer ppl r disproportionately *victimized* by sexual predators. acting like people hating rapists, or even saying they should be castrated, is reactionary doesn't help us.
additionally — and i am far from the first person to point this out — in an era where all LGBTQ people are being portrayed by the far right as sexual predators by default, what do you think the end result of giving the gov’t full reign to limitless punishment would be.

this is one of the cornerstones of lefty abuse apologia and it’s rife in academic discourse. to recognize someone as victimized is, supposedly, to “rob them of their agency” and infantilize them.
Very telling how "infantilization" is brought up whenever anyone points out power imbalances, even in situations where allegations of sexual abuse are present. You can say you didn't consent, and people will still take offense on your behalf at the idea that you didn't consent.

this is so critical to discussions about purity culture. it is not, in fact, "anti-sex". it is pro patriarchal sex, it is pro abuse, it is pro sexual assault. the entire point of "purity" is not to be "anti-sex" but to fetishize innocence and youth.
Because it’s not sexy. The whole purity culture movement is based on the fetishization of youth, girlishness, virginity, etc. A sixteen year old who knows she’s supposed to do what the pastor says but not why he’s doing it is hotter to said pastor. That’s why it happens.

the idea that it's somehow racist or colonialist to suggest that humanity first learned how to dominate on the bodies of women represents a disturbing erasure of actual indigenous and global south feminisms.
@madtranny @zanyfen @dead_berserker @kayteterry @dasmeff Oh no, you're actually inclined to defend the (blatantly eurocentric) assertion that slavers enslaved their wives first. Well, I think we're done here. A pleasure, as ever, trandrea. Goodnight.

one of the things working with dv survivors has made me realize is that when a lot of supposed “anti-racists” talk about poc what they actually mean is men of color. women of color, or the idea they may have divergent interests from men of color, simply do not register to them.
okay im going to stop getting in arguments, but this whole “indian men are racialized so we cant acknowledge the institutional harm they inflict on their women” thing is absolutely mind numbing and frankly u people dont see women from the global south as actual people.

omg i finally read the full bill AND IT DOESN’T EVEN CRIMINALIZE ANYTHING. this is literally a perfect example of a “non-reformist reform” - it gives survivors power instead of cops - and IT’S STILL BEING FRAMED AS CARCERAL!
Arresting 13 and 14 year olds for "deep fakes," labeling them sex offenders for life, throwing them out as irredeemable trash while they are still children, and ruining their remaining decades on this earth will not address the problem. But it will ruin a lot more lives.

this is genuinely so so sad to me. one of the most powerful and politically defining experiences for me as a survivor was learning that i am not only allowed to feel hate and anger towards my abusers, but also that those feelings are in fact trustworthy.
@virgil_30 The hardest thing traumatized people must learn is that sometimes the anger from our trauma causes us to think and do things that are antisocial, unhelpful, and wrong, and our trauma does not absolve us of this.

this is patently bullshit and relies on ignoring the reality that the vast majority of sexual violence goes unreported.
The funniest part is, on the whole, things are much better in terms of men not feeling entitled to women's bodies. Rape & sexual violence is down, sexual harassment is down, work place sexual harassment is no longer normalized, etc.

"anarcho-feminist" lmao
@ayy_maddie @lesbiayen little micro aggressions created by misandry can really add up, it can widen the gender divide to treat men like predator animals and not individual humans, i knew a guy who was once attacked at a party by two women, the justification was he was a man so they didnt trust him.

"women actively choosing to divest from heteropatriarchy is the real rape culture" 🤡🤡🤡.
the way you guys talk about sex strikes is deeply concerning to me. sex is not something only men enjoy. and it is certainly not (or shouldn’t be!) something that happens to women. please find a new angle preferably one that is not baked in rape culture. maybe an actual strike!.

@ohtheperipheryy yup, this. it’s unfortunate, but a lot of people - particularly men - will use that information to exploit survivors of abuse generally.
@ohtheperipheryy @madtranny I would think because predators will exploit it as a vulnerability. But that's just a sign that they are a piece of shit and you shouldn't date them. Give them the "ammo", if they use it then you know what you need to know about them imo.

i dunno, literally every time i’ve been called a puritan it was for shit like saying “hey maybe don’t produce, distribute and consume cartoon csam?” so that word has become pretty meaningless to me lol.
whenever u point out something is a deeply puritan belief you get hundreds of people going like "im not a puritan i just believe in Common Sense, Everyone thinks this is Weird and needs to be Hidden from the Public" with absolutely zero self reflection.

never ever ever believe the lie that reactionary "anti-pedo" rhetoric somehow indicates a general cultural hatred for child sexual abuse and the men who commit it.
Where I went to school in a working class area in the mid 90’s it was fairly common for 13/14 year old girls in my year to have boyfriends in their late teens and early 20’s. Some ended up with kids as a result. Few people seemed to me to really bat an eyelid?

are "queer kids" really doing anti-folsom hate crimes or is my generation just doing another "the kids these days!" freakout about teens and twenty-somethings supposedly not being sexually liberated enough?.

you can make many valid criticisms of the fossil fuel industry but if the conclusion you draw from that is “fossil fuels shouldn’t exist” i’m gonna assume you just hate coal miners.
You can make many valid criticisms of the porn industry but if the conclusion you draw from that is “porn shouldn’t exist” and not “workers need more protection” I’m gonna assume you’re a Christofascist.

not even the most annoyingly strident and reductive radfems - the few people who actually approximate the caricature - have ever suggested "sa narratives shouldn't be allowed", genuinely where do people get this from???.
yes this also applies to themes you feel are distasteful. sorry. also: when you say “SA narratives shouldn’t be allowed” you’re also kind of saying “SA victim voices shouldn’t be heard”.

the number of people stumbling their way into defending “straight pride” in the replies to this wild.
Any woman who outright "celebrates" being attracted to men is lesbophobic, there's nothing neutral about doing this in a society where *lack* of attraction to men is punished, and there's something very wrong if bisexual positivity takes the form of leaning into lesbophobia.

the “political views” are of course allen ginsberg telling andrea dworkin that he would like to fuck her friend’s eight and twelve year old children, and her responding she’d like to put a bullet in his head. the monstering of dworkin has been genuinely disastrous.

"women politically organizing to divest from all the labor of reproducing cisheteropatriarchy strikes me, a man, as having some deeply violent implications". jfc queer men really need to work on the rampant misogyny and anti-feminism in their communities.

@ionfwliars *sigh*. it is well known, even among academics who romanticize these cultures, that greco-roman men considered it the highest dishonor to be penetrated. to be penetrated was to quite literally be made into a woman or non-man. you could have your citizenship stripped from you.

feminist legal scholars have long pointed out that in the specific context of sexual violence the enactment of "defendants rights" turns the survivor into the one presumed guilty, i.e. of lying, and in need of defending herself.
