You are very correct, Counsel. Even though the decision was a close shave! 3-2 majority with Ngwuta JSC and Oseji JSC (of blessed memory) dissenting. Methinks position of the Supreme Court on this issue is highly susceptible to change. However, as of today it's still the law. So, @timiagbaje_, you need to do a follow-up video on the issue. Well done. Readers are leaders. You have done well, my learned friend @israeloflife

If the lender in a friendly loan arrangement charges interest , and the borrower agrees to it, the borrower is bound to pay both the principal sum and the interest. The Supreme Court made this clear in Uzochukwu v. Idika.

RT @Ibnwalee: @jurist_oriko I absolutely do, and one can’t say truly without reading the entire thing.

@Ibnwalee Now you get the gist 😄.
Some times, it's not bad for lawyers or judges to showcase their word range(context matters though). Striking balance is key but we should not advocate a total elimination of poetic licence for lawyers and judges. Let's see the hidden beauty of language some times. Read the instant judgment to see the simple way the poetic licence of the said judge came around.

Litigation lawyers are the masters of law. We are needed in every area of law. #LitGeng
One thing I learnt in court today is, no matter what area of law your issue is. FIND A LITIGATION LAWYER. e.g if your issue borders on intellectual property. Don’t go and be looking for IP lawyer up and down. Find a litigation lawyer. My eyes saw things today😭

In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity. In this case, opportunity to learn and know better! You'd rather have him quote what the law does not say so you guys can hurriedly tag him charge and bail? Are you saying it's a bad thing to call people's attention to the law guiding money lending for posterity sake? How do we avoid similar situations if we don't know the law guiding such transaction? The way you people disrespect lawyers on this app is tragic. We won't be discouraged, though. We will just filter out the noise and keep doing the good work.
This is not the kind of post that you'll come to quote what the law says man. He's bemoaning the betrayal of trust & complete lack of consideration from a friend. He's not contemplating any legal action or asserting any legal right to the interest. He's even planning on leaving

@Ibnwalee Even Nigerian judges make persuasive reference to foreign judgments in their own judgment.
