I asked a man in my village why we build houses in a compact manner when we have lands big enough to space the houses.
He said “houses spaced apart can discourage people from visiting each other”
His argument made sense as I grow.
We are really losing our sense of community.
My cousin whose father took me into his own home and raised me comes to Accra and stays in an Airbnb. I feel guilty and torn but I understand that he is an adult who needs his own privacy. I always make sure I meet him whenever he is around.
