Either preorder or run to get Becoming Earth by @ferrisjabr out next week, which I was lucky to read early. Just peak-of-powers science writing: a globetrotting adventure across a globe that breathes and bleeds and changes under each footfall.

I had seen great reviews of Our Moon by @rboyle31 @randomhouse, but by the book's middle, a history-of-ideas adventure from Mesopotamia to Kepler, I realized how even that praise sells short how skillful and genre-smashing it is. A truly cosmic tale by a master storyteller.

@Astro_Wright @chrislintott I found this a good overview of the history. Some conclusions: they had multiple Indigenous names beforehand; Magellan was not the first European to see them; and people didn't associate them with him until much later.

@PlavchanPeter More early morning daylight exposure? If I remember a talk I was watching, the endogenous circadian cycle can get off as much as 15 min/day, and first morning light is the strongest input to recalibrate it.
