Which stars could have spotted Earth since early civilizations bloomed? I am glad you asked. See our new paper in @Nature . With the amazing @jfaherty @CSInst @AMNH @Cornell @CornellCAS.
Can they see us? Astronomers have identified 2,034 nearby star-systems – within 326 light-years – that could see Earth cross in front of our sun, backlighting our pale blue dot and revealing signatures of life. @CSInst @CornellCAS @CornellAstro @Nature

Watch an exoplanet. .
This is Beta Pictoris b—a planet 12 times the mass of Jupiter—sailing around its star in a tilted orbit. Constructed from real data, astrophysicist Jason Wang (@semaphore_P)'s video condenses 17 years of footage, making it the longest time-lapse video of an exoplanet to date.

Cool fact: "Ringshine" would light up the twilight hours on Saturn if you were floating in your spacecraft in its atmosphere - pretty cool vision. Ringshine should be a new English word - Did you enjoy the Ringshine too? excellent dinner conversation. Tks for sharing @JPMajor.
This view, made from images acquired by NASA's Cassini spacecraft on February 17, 2007 #OTD shows the effect of "ringshine" on Saturn's night side. Twilight and pre-dawn on Saturn would be pretty bright, thanks to its reflective rings. 🪐
