My moms rerouted flight from Frankfurt to BER was canceled so they put her on a train.. She’s never been to Germany and is now navigating her way through the country on delayed RBs and ICEs. I was worried but turns out she’s having a good time with her new German train friends 🍻

I usually put mine to my side when the bus is empty and I sometimes don’t notice that people need seats and always feel bad if they ask. I’ll try to be more aware but also I promise we aren’t all being rude just sometimes unaware.

My bf went to a new doctor today and made sure they spoke English. When he arrived the doctor would only communicate in German and after 5 min trying to communicate, she switched to English and asked why he hasn't learned German after living here for 2 years. I am so disgusted.

After a toxic weekend w/friends I decided to remove myself from a bad situation and check into a hotel at 2am last night. Even at 35 I have a really hard time not being a doormat and managed to stand up for myself in a big way. This may have been a milestone in my life 🙏🏻

Today is my four year anniversary of living in Germany and unfortunately (😱) my last! We’re moving to Istanbul on January 20th. Living in Germany has been quite the adventure, has changed my life in a million ways, and I’m so glad to have had the twitter fam by my side 💕

Goodbye to my Momifer! My personal highlight was her Midwest nice confusing Berliners. My mom said “Bye! Have a nice day!” when a woman sitting next to her on a packed UBahn stood up to leave and I’ve never seen anyone look quite so bewildered.

Caught a video of the final score at the Daçka vs Beşiktaş game in Istanbul yesterday. There was a large group of kids rooting for the winning team. Turns out the kids are from an underprivileged school, to enroll they had to lose a parent and be low income. My heart.

One of the hardest parts of moving is dealing with my dog's belongings. He died over two years ago but I haven't been able to part with any of his things. I'm so glad I was able to bring him from the US and share my life in Germany with him 💕

I coordinated my first trash pick up in Berlin today! The trash was very different from Göttingen. Instead of 1000 beer bottles it was lots condoms (yay safe sex!) and drug paraphernalia 😐 But it was still a nice way to celebrate my first week living here 💕

I cannot say enough positive things about my friendships with Germans. It’s definitely hard to break in, especially in Berlin, but my German friends from Göttingen are some of the best friendships I have. Heading there next weekend to celebrate our wedding and can’t wait!

When I was Iowa last month I helped my dad apply for a home improvement grant and he was selected. The grant is for $35k of home repairs and will help keep him in his home as he gets older. It’s hard to be across the ocean but I’m glad I can help him access this kind of resource.
