This piece of music was composed with this in mind-
The composer took a 10 inch piece of birch bark & transcribed it for the 24 double basses & she made it 30 mins bc the electrical signals are thought to move @ 1/3 an inch (or ~1 cm) per minute

keeping your fingers "alive" on a neck or fretboard evokes so much more nuanced and complex emotionality than "strong + stiff"

I second this whole thread wholeheartedly & wanna share a story from this spring that illustrates what happened when I played with these ideas with my dad.
It’s a story of racecars and time travel & subtle emotional energies
part of growing up is making your childhood dreams come true, no matter how simple. maybe you always wanted to buy a fuck ton of strawberry pop tarts or travel to austria or sell hand drawn stickers for 50 cents (whatever your kid self thought was a lot of money). DO IT, TRUST ME

Mage’s work feels so vital to me for many reasons, not least of which bc he openly points to focusing at the city & country levels
We spend so much energy focusing on the layers of “self” & family, at the risk of being myopic for the deeper places where the work is also needed
This is kinda what i mean when i talk about integration. Can you resolve the tension within your self without falling apart? Can your family resolve the tension within itself? Your city/country?
Ability to hold and resolve is what allows for all the good stuff
