Lot of great things here from Wade Davis: - Rides the slide with back hip down the mound - Back hip stays in ER to create more force production and to help sequencing - As hips open, torso remains closed - Lead leg block occurs because of proper hip rotation

Don’t let the change up name fool you. It’s a power pitch. Trust the grip and throw it hard. Focus more on the downward action and movement rather then the velo differential.

Here is a drill you can do to work on back leg drive. Essentially it’s the Hershiser Drill with the back hip externally rotated instead.

Get into your rear glute, but don’t get stuck. Pelvis still needs to rotate. Notice in these clips that they get into there glute in the load and early stride phase, but are able to rotate pelvis into foot plant. This is also what will set up a good block.

At the end of the day, all that matters as a coach is how well you can communicate with the athlete what you want him/her to do. Knowing technical terms is important, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t relay the information effectively.

What do high velo throwers do that low velo throwers don't? - More open pelvis into foot plant - Peak pelvis rot. velo happens earlier in delivery - Lead leg block starts right at foot plant - CoM moves faster down the mound Nice work @DrivelineBB

I like this rocker variation for a couple reasons: 1. You can really feel yourself coil and create tension in the back leg 2. The leg lift allows for better feel of timing with the upper body Which rocker variation do you like to do?

There are 3 types of players: - Those that don’t care and don’t put in effort. - Those that talk about working hard, but are never consistent with it. - Then there are those that don’t have to talk. They just put in the work and get 1% better everyday. Which player are you?

Why do you think pitchers struggle more on the road typically? 2 big reasons: 1. Not prepared (Don’t give yourself enough time to prepare). 2. Deviate from routine (if they have one). Routines bring familiarity, comfort, and confidence. Set yourself up for success.

There’s a big difference between “falling off” and rotating really well. It can be easy to say Sherfy is falling off in the video because he goes towards 1st base so much. If you want to throw hard you have to rotate well. Throws mid 90’s with a 5’11” 170 pound frame.

The step back drill is great for guys that struggle with loading into the back glute. Often times pitchers push their hips towards home causing their back knee to cave towards home too soon. Maximize your lower half by getting into the glute and riding it down the mound.

Glove side disconnection is NOT flying the torso open. Rather, it’s retracting the lead arm and creating separation between the throwing side and glove side. Why? To accelerate torso rotational velocity and ultimately to enhance throwing velocity.

Doesn’t matter if you are a coach or a player, there will always be anxiousness and nerves before/during a big game. That’s normal. That’s expected. How you channel it is what matters. What are you doing to bring yourself back to the present, to focus on the task at hand?

At this point in the season it can be easy to get comfortable and to go through the motions with your routines. The teams that truly want to win a championship will refuse to let this happen. They will hold themselves and their teammates to the standard that has been set.

I love comparing hitters and pitchers. Notice how as Hoskins goes into his stride he keeps his back hip in ER. This allows him to hinge at the hip and load into his glute. This is the move pitchers want to feel as they go down the mound.

Even at the big league level, fundamentals don’t always get followed. Puig has to know that Betts is going to be safe at home easily. Keep the ball low and allow it to be cut off so that the runner doesn’t take second. DP is eliminated and now runner is on 2B.

I think bunting for a hit is one of the most underrated things in baseball today. Believe me, I am all about hitting the ball in the air and doing damage, but why not get a free hit when the third basemen is back?

For guys that struggle with glove side disconnection (like myself) I like holding a 2 pound ball in my glove hand to help FEEL the disconnection better. Also have had good results using a 2-5 pound wrist weight as well.

Think back to what you knew about your craft 1 year ago....5 years ago. How has your knowledge/teaching changed? Has it changed? Having a growth mindset doesn’t mean we change our philosophy every week, but it does mean we look at it critically and seek improvement.
