My wife and personal hero, @sara__stock, gave birth to our baby girl yesterday and I’ve been on a very sleepy cloud 9 since. There were many “I can’t do this!” and “Nothing’s happening!” but it was and she could 🤣 I’m the most appreciative husband in the world. I love you both!

@tangotiger Deeper also means the pitch got to move more (potentially towards the edges of the zone), so perhaps the differences in reaction time are negated.

Couple people have linked this article, but the problem is nobody accumulated velo data so there’s nothing to rely on when comparing velos. A stadium got Nolan Ryan at 100mph? That same inning the gun also registered fastballs in the 80s. Useless data.

Claims that radar readings were 4 and 8mph slower before modern radar readings means that these average fastballs in 2002 were actually 84mph. Someone please alert the MLB pitchers from this era they threw low 80s on average.

I’d love to ask the guys in the 80s if they think they threw faster than the guys in the 50s….

@Greyson2020 So by the claim made in the original post, those 88mph fastballs would have measured at only 84mph on a Jugs and 80mph on the earlier gun?

@Greyson2020 Ok so then a chart like this seems reasonably true to you? It’s not the measurement tools but the pitchers themselves that are throwing faster?

@Greyson2020 So have stalker radar guns slowly read faster and faster over the last 20 years??

Can’t someone just sell an IMAX shaped TV? Just add some black bars for non IMAX stuff.

#DunePartTwo in IMAX. We are missing so much of the frame on home video. 😥

@rljmb23 The transition from pitchfx to trackman it statcast maybe? But stalker radar guns have been the standard used by pro scouts since as early as I can remember (early 2000s at least), so that hasn’t changed for 20 years while we’ve seen velocities climb.

@TylerOsik Yea the financial limitations of independent ball are the limiting factor for sure! But it’s a viable path if you can make it work. And definitely up and down players (4A guys) can be indistinguishable from some AAA players who never make it.

@JLucroy20 Spending time critiquing a non-game speed swing is pointless, imo.

@ElliottVenczel I’m all for testing things, but I feel like the outcome of triple dps is too obvious. Classes with massive upfront CDs, stealth, immunities, etc gain a massive advantage. Similar to 2v2 bracket where some double dps comps are viable and others are completely unplayable.

@tangotiger IMO throwing a 4th best pitch early in the count in a situation where the batter is likely to take is ideal. Get to “steal” a strike with a pitch you’re not going to throw again during the AB.
