these tweets should be read with care, for I have not the skill to make myself clear to those who do not wish to concentrate their attention

@brimstonecanary @EndPlatoons The poverty mindset has nothing to do with how much you spend, it’s about how you spend. The poverty-minded buy the $40 boots that last a year before they fall apart, instead of the $100 boots that last forever with good care… They pay for Arcias, not Dansbys; Sales, not Frieds.

@brimstonecanary @EndPlatoons But if they hadn’t agreed his salary would’ve been assigned by an arbitration panel - not another team’s offer. Iglesias signed that deal with the Angels, Sale and Lopez were both buy-low reclamation projects, Sale and Profar both one year gambles. Ozuna is one in 5 years? More?

@brimstonecanary @EndPlatoons My point is that he signed the contract off a 5 fWAR season, so if each is $8.5m, he should’ve been looking at $42.5m, but he signed at $21m AAV. And arbitration years are by-definition not free market valuations. Rendon’s last arb year he got $18.8m, next contract was $35m AAV.

@jttiehen @ZarahMcIntosh @AliceFromQueens I’m not sure I buy the “only runs if it’s an easy win” crowd as the “strongest candidates.”

@brimstonecanary @EndPlatoons The market is the market. It’s not an overpay if someone offers and accepts. The Braves use arbitration/team control to get young players on cost-controlled longterm deals… then they let them walk. It’s a good strategy, for a poverty-minded ownership.

@brimstonecanary @EndPlatoons I’m skeptical of WAR to begin with, but this pushes it well beyond meaning… also he had 3.8 bWAR last year and 5.8 bWAR the year before he signed the extension… so not sure your math world out anyway. Of course they bought out two years of arb, so unquestionably below-market…

@brimstonecanary @EndPlatoons Yes, and they were lucky that Acuña prioritized that, just like they were lucky when Jeff Francoeur *didn’t* sign the extension offer that would’ve done the same for him. Of course they have ended up paying him a lot for time he’s missed too… and he could miss more.

@GeorgeSelgin @BitcoinPierre The problem with your logic is that you’re treating Bitcoin as if it was the content and not the structure. Currencies come and go, but *currency* has had a very long run. Bitcoin does a pretty simple thing, elegantly, in a way that allows for innovation.

@stlsportsfan123 @RobertStock6 Right, but that wasn’t the case ~20+ years ago. I remember Don Sutton talking about how the guns in certain stadiums always read “hot” - sometimes even between teams.

@stlsportsfan123 @RobertStock6 I’m referring to all guns - so yes, some high schools/scouts/conferences/stadiums updated their tech before others. I’m not sure when MLB standardized (maybe PITCHf/x in ‘06?) But when I was a kid they were far from comparable.

@KirbStompUGA @EndPlatoons My argument isn’t at all based on any one of these. It’s the pattern. If your strategy is to constantly develop and let guys walk, you will never have a dynasty again; you’ll never compete with the Dodgers, or any other organization willing to invest in the brand.

@RobertStock6 I certainly don’t know the exact figures off the top of my head, and it’s not a direct 1:1, nor is it likely the same for every pitcher… but in general, yes an 88 mph on one gun will measure differently when measured by a different technology.

@stlsportsfan123 @RobertStock6 Dude, read my first tweet in the thread and try again… or save us time and don’t?

@EndPlatoons Strider may never pitch the same again because he’s now had two significant arm injuries over a short time span… but you would know this if you were paying attention.

@EndPlatoons You suggested we haven’t had luck, and our success is based on scouting and development. My point was that even with great development you have to get lucky… but I already said all that, so maybe you’re the one that’s not being serious?

@RobertStock6 Sure, that looks pretty plausible… for a number of reasons - including what is likely a very similar but reversed graphs of IP or pitches per start.

@EndPlatoons No one is talking about one season. We’ve let Fried, Swanson, and Freeman walk over the past three offseasons. We will clearly let all the rest of these guys walk unless they sign below-market extensions. Meanwhile the Dodgers are adding more and more every chance they get.

@CSURamT @CSU_2_PAC Because the MW teams have contractually agreed to stay and would have to pay big penalties to leave now. AAC schools declined to even enter negotiations, have about 7 weeks to announce their departure for ‘27, and are clearly unwilling to pay to leave by ‘26. TexSt, SacSt, NMSU.
