In the medium term (3-5yrs), AI will increase the demand for "programmers", but it will broaden the definition of what a programmer is and drastically lower the bar for "programming". If you can talk logically, you will be able to program. And if you're under 40 now, you will.

OpenAI is underplaying the chances of hitting AGI in the next few years so as not to get regulated too soon. Regulation will inevitably come, but only after OpenAI has already achieved their main goal. Any subsequent regulation will just act as a barrier to entry for new players
