Characters vary in sidestep characteristics and I made a google spreadsheet years ago that I can dm you later. Anything I do or make isn't that great, so it's pretty rudimentary, but hopefully it can convey why shit like this happens.

Nah, the true meta was to set your main as anchor, and make the point character someone who has tag cancellable launchers that can set your main character for 90+ red life damage or 120+ with a tag combo. Then your opponent has to switch out without getting launch punished for it
