In what has been a potentially defining week for professional golf, there is something so refreshing about Bob keeping it real in his home town. For my money (sadly not anywhere near £450 million!) this is how you relate to fans, inspire future generations & grow the game.
Humza & I worked together as SNP interns 20 years ago-his talent & insatiable appetite for politics was evident even then. Dealt very bad hand as FM & could have bemoaned that today but was typically dignified acknowledging his own errors - a rarity in public life these days.
Wilson - step up & prove you’re worth the hype.
Shinnie - get in aboot them early.
GMS - run at them. They don’t like it.
Devlin - please be fit.
McKenna - ball & man.
Ferguson - same again son.
McGinn - nae short corners.
Joe - be super.

Believed in independence all my life & was privileged to play role (albeit modest) in getting Yes support to levels it still carries today. A key characteristic of movement is (or at least was) imp of debate & respecting, if not necessarily agreeing, with different views held.
I have no skin in game & member of no party but thought it worth pointing out whilst I disagree with Kate’s personal beliefs, that shouldn’t negate the fact she is a capable politician & likeable person. Her campaign may be floundering but those facts should not be forgotten.

Strange one. I don’t recall Patrick Harvie voicing any ‘lurch to the right’ concerns when Bute House Agreement was struck and Kate Forbes was Finance Secretary…
I have no doubt the scrutiny of the proposals are warranted but, purely on a personal level, this characterisation of John Swinney is ridiculously wide of mark. I’ve known him for over 15 yeas and you simply couldn’t meet a more dedicated, thoughtful and hard working politician.
Seeking to protect jobs whilst reducing reliance on carbon heavy imports as part of a JUST transition is apparently a priority of “hard right”. My friends & family, who work in the industry, will be delighted to know this is how they are viewed. Silly & offensive.
Clever. He is certainly making a name for himself. Gaining recognition and profile has, traditionally, been the one of the biggest challenges facing the SNP at Westminster, Stephen is certainly achieving that.

Threat to SNP at ballot box predates Humza taking office & police investigation👇🏻. Bellshill by-election highlights need for major point of departure. Party has to stop talking to its own bubble, establish vision & purpose that reflects punters needs & deliver with conviction.
Scale of threat to SNP hegemony laid bare. Top to bottom the party should reflect on this as they navigate next 4 weeks. Disagree but do it on battle of ideas & elevate debate beyond personal attacks on all sides. Voters clearly aren’t amused & Labour are waiting to pounce.
This was coming so don’t waste a crisis as saying goes. SNP need to show candour; listen & reflect on this result & use it as point of departure. Next week’s conference is opportunity to reset vision with a refreshed policy agenda. They must seize it or risk is now apparent.
Labour has defeated the SNP to win the Rutherglen & Hamilton West by-election with a swing of 20.4%.

Here's the analysis:
There are, of course, social media idiots on both sides of Indy debate. Yes supporters, fairly or unfairly, will always face more scrutiny because they are side seeking to change the status quo. 2014 case was built largely on a positive vision. Let’s aim to keep it that way.

Boo by all means but “McInnes GTF” chant is surely OTT. Yes, performances of late not good enough but he’s been a great servant to club & deserves respect. We are not in a relegation battle and exciting new players are in. Let’s see where we are at end of season & then judge.
Our men’s curling team are world champions - a stunning achievement! But surely I can’t be alone in being hugely frustrated at lack of broadcast coverage or promotion for such a big occasion? Thanks to Alison I watched it but how many other Scots knew it was taking place? 🏴🥌
I always promised I wouldn’t be one of those Dads that posts like this but when feeling low, as often happens with me in the mornings, this guy has a knack of reminding me things are not that bad at all.

Familiarity breeds contempt - we play teams far too often. If Old Firm, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee Utd etc are only coming once to Todders, much more likely to get better attendances & excitement. Two larger leagues, proper relegation & promotion structure. Let’s dare to be bold

How do we hope to expand the appeal of our game if we continue with same failed formula of fixating on two clubs? There are compelling narratives beyond this but

If this materialises in Scotland, absolutely imperative SNP reflect honestly at to why and act decisively. Labour will have momentum but 2026 is a different beast. In 2010, SNP got 6 seats at GE and a year later returned a majority at Holyrood in a PR system…
Not readily understood these days perhaps but Kevin was a key architect of SNP 2007 success which got ball rolling on an unprecedented run of political domination. His role in minority government between 07-11 was particularly pivotal. A big loss to SG imo.
Kevin Pringle - a respected senior adviser to Alex Salmond, Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf - has been sacked from the Scottish government by John Swinney.
Spain, Germany & Italy do just fine without our version of a national stadium. Scrap Hampden (terrible fan experience anyway) & spend money on grassroots and elite development. Bring the National team, Club Semis/ Finals around the Country’s stadia depending on size of game.
Confirms downward trajectory for SNP. Labour taking a haul in central belt is all but priced in so must hold areas like this to have any chance of winning GE in Scotland. Party needs to focus on core issues, not frippery & remind themselves what got them to Gov in first place.
Very impressed with the fan and community outreach of

Had to read this a few times as I couldn’t quite comprehend the sheer ‘matter of factness’ tone associated with racist drivel. What an absolute shameful disgrace.
@HumzaYousaf
it is extremely tiresome that Western nations keep getting dragged into foreign tribal feuds
it's embarrassing that Scotland doesn't have a leader with Scottish blood
If anything illustrates the bizarre and unprecedented political times we live in, it’s the Government of the day regularly being defeated on its key policy objective with us punters looking on and simply shrugging as if it’s par for the course. This used to mean something.
@ScotlandSky
Honest & heartfelt. He knows buck stops with him and mistakes made. Whatever your views, nobody can claim he doesn’t care about our club. In a age when many clubs don’t truly know who their Chairman is, there is something refreshing about that.
@CMcK1124
So why weren’t SNP voters willing to turnout? Whether it be in polls or at ballot box in by-elections, the trend has been against the SNP for months. This ‘fingers in ears’ and ‘it will be alright on the night’ position is exactly how I recall the Labour Party acting in 2006.

Or… half of Scots agree North Sea Oil & Gas should NOT face urgent shutdown & 70% agree we should produce domestically as opposed to being reliant on carbon heavy imports. It will take time to bring renewables up to scale - the phrase ‘energy transition’ is used for a reason.
Decarbonising our oil sector & moves to energy transition are vital. But we need hydrocarbons to meet energy needs up to 2050. Stopping projects like Cambo means importing more (carbon heavy) putting many Scottish jobs at risk - environmentally & economically damaging.
We need to move away from oil & gas, sure. But 2 things:
Deal with demand, or we pay more to import for years.
Transition is only ‘just’ if it doesn’t throw energy jobs on scrapheap. Low carbon jobs don’t exist at scale yet.
Economic consequences potentially very serious here.

Tayside & Edinburgh derbies tomorrow. Both meaningful - relegation, top 6, euro football at stake. And yet, neither on live TV. How do we expect to grow general & commercial interest in our game with such piss poor, midday KO, Old Firm dominated coverage? This HAS to change.
If accurate, this is bad form. Leader interviews coinciding with party conferences are a healthy tradition and the BBC should offer an alternative broadcast opportunity for Douglas Ross as soon as possible.
This morning I was due to be interviewed on The Sunday Show, following our

Sadly the BBC were not willing to change the time of the recording to allow me to take part & also take care of my two boys.

for a number of years in the first two SNP Governments. Dedicated, talented and great grasp of public policy. His promotion to Chief of Staff is well deserved. Good luck Colin!
The skills, infrastructure & experience of oil & gas companies, including supply chain (largely SMEs), will play a critical role in energy transition & meeting net zero. All political parties must work with, & not against, the industry to achieve this. 100,000 jobs depend on it.
Apart from the obvious hypocrisy, is it now Scot Gov policy to treat oil industry leaders as pariahs? Clear implication from Lorna Slater's tweets today is that you can't talk about fighting climate change *and* talk to oil industry leaders. Not exactly grown-up government...
Hosting world’s largest arts festival is fundamentally a great thing for profile & economy. I too can get grumpy at large crowds & urge more consideration for locals but, all in all, Edinburgh is alive and I love it. What other cities would do for such an opportunity...
I love this John Barnes interview. Gonna keep this here as I know it’ll be relevant for years to come. People need to understand how important the media is in influencing society...have a watch. 🧐

Common sense prevails! The right decision - as football fans we deserve the best analysis and Michael provides that. I look forward to agreeing and disagreeing with him in equal measure as I shout at the radio every Saturday...
Perhaps pro-independence voters should rejoice. The last time David Cameron was in office he agreed to the 2014 referendum. I’m sure he will have a word with his new colleagues as to how to respect a mandate… 😉
As a proud Aberdonian, it’s a huge honour to join the Board of this great organisation. I look forward to doing my little bit in support of economic renaissance across the north east.
SNP will win GE in Scotland which is no mean feat historically. However, I would urge expectation management with “Tory Wipeout” talk. Their pitch of ‘Get Brexit Done’ is simple & more effective now Boris has a deal to defend. Might be enough to hold on to a handful of seats.

An industry that has contributed over £100bn (pure cash terms) to public finances since 2000. Both Govs espouse lofty net zero ambitions but are failing to incentivise THE key region with critical mass in skills & experience to deliver. WE DESERVE MUCH BETTER.
So the daily “great reaction on the doorsteps” post from every candidate is finally upon us. I would LOVE it if one of of them gives it the big “well based on that reaction, I’m getting humped so I’m aff to pub to watch Hungary blast Switzerland at Euros”
Thank you so much for the recommendation Kim but mostly, hugely and emphatically for saying… “and someone called Andy”… you have made my week. Brilliant! 😂

At an away day in Jan ‘07, the would be SNP Cabinet mused, somewhat in hope, how to tame a dominant Scottish Labour that recorded 40% of the vote in the ‘05 Election. Twelve years on they are in 5th place with less than 10% share. Stunning reversal in fortunes for both parties.

Not advocating Murrayfield but Hampden is a truly awful fan experience. From both ‘ends’ you can hardly see the action, majority of stadium is decrepit, little by the way of immediate local amenities & transport connectivity is dire. Massive improvements needed.
SNP are caught in a holding pattern - whether or not to wholeheartedly campaign for their favoured alternative (Indy) to Brexit. More polls like this & I think their hand is forced both by eager party members and necessity. No Indy majority at 2021 Election - game is a bogey.
