@purplepingers If you mean the idea that more houses, even if expensive, alleviates housing costs even in less expensive housing then that’s unfortunate, as the evidence is pretty solid.

Research in Finland used individual data to analyse "moving chains" and found that more private ("market rate") housing in high-income suburbs quickly alleviated pressure in middle- to low-income suburbs. So, yeah -- I tend to agree with Matt.

@purplepingers Absolutely agree that a land tax would help, but loosening up zoning to allow the policy to stimulate more productive use (i.e. to build more housing) needs to be done as well.

@adamliaw Some banks seem to do this for you these days, but agreed it would make sense to have it standardised (and consistent). Can we also get them to list the *transaction* date as well as the *processed date*? The former is much more useful for figuring out WTH a transaction is.

@Aaronsmith333 Neither of them are measures of wealth. If the wealth was equal, I'd rather be the $200k, but if the $60k had $1M in assets (like a typical big city house) and the $200k had nothing, I'd probably rather be the $60k. Discussing "rich" in terms of annual income is misguided.
