Guys many of you are asking why Makhana has become so expensive these days.
It has tripled in cost since 2022.
Nobody is to be blamed.
It's just the demand is a lot and production is not that high.
By Bhagwan's grace, Bihar is the sole producer and hence the high cost.

Quick tip to recognise the size of Makhana if you’re a noob.
Use a ₹5 coin 🪙.
It’s not accurate 100% but gives you a great sense of what suta Makhana you’re looking at.
I used to do it initially.
Worked for me. Might work for you as well :)

Didn’t get any orders but I’m happy because I got positive feedback :)

The answer was simple - size consistency.
Not taste or colour. Taste is all the same.

Some days it’s low. Some days it’s high.

The size and weight of Makhana in that packet is all the difference.
Prices vary because of the size of Makhana, which we call “suta” or “सूता” locally.
Quality and taste is same across all the sizes. Basically how popcorns are.
Smaller the popcorn, not so nice eating

One thing I love about Bihar is that whether I’m in Patna or Champaran,
I can speak Maithili, and people will always understand and respond politely.

When I was selling on Amazon last year, not a single package of mine was picked and shipped by Amazon’s own shipping company.
It was a mess and I had to complain. But nothing worked. I then switched over to other shipping companies.

I just shipped an order of ₹950.
The shipping cost came at ₹450 for BlueDart.
Volumetric weight of 500g Makhana with packaging becomes about 3 kgs.
BlueDart in my city just told me they’ll charge ₹150/kg which I know is super high.

We have something called "cash discount (CD)" in Delhi and Mumbai market, which gives a 1.95% discount to the buyer if someone completes payment within 7 days.

About the constituents, I'm not so aware😅but I've heard the protein content is decent at about 9g/100g makhana.
And it's gluten free so a very healthy snack option.

Went to another market en route to my home.
It was a small one.
Feedback was again positive but shops required super low quantities which I can’t fulfill right now.
But yeah I can easily get good margins in these markets :)

Makhana pricing is very volatile. And it’s generally more expensive than other nuts.
So I have chosen a middle price that would be good even if prices are exorbitantly high for us.
Size variations/quality grading lead to cost variations.
