@wrathofgodbot I met him very early on in the campaign, before he was selected as a candidate. He (in-person, and from his since-deleted Twitter account) seemed genuine--if ambitious--in a way that I think, after years of being around young Labour people, I'm good at recognising.

There is a certain section of the English right obsessed with the idea that Labour voters are somehow ethnically ‘other’—whether that be “they’re all Irish” or the even dimmer “they’re all non-white (except the liberals who hate their own country)”. It’s very funny.

Blyth Valley 2017/19 GE result by LSOA This constituency consists of two main parts: the industrial town of Blyth; and Cramlington, a post-war new town. It also takes in Seaton Valley, where new housing developments contend with the legacy of the mining industry.

Truth is pretty simple - 2019 could have marked a long term & substantial realignment, with a Tory economics more in tune with the needs of the North and needs of the nation. Events mean that long term shift now less likely. A return to Thatcherite orthodoxy depressingly quick.
