You don't need to have any medals to pay your respects. If you have medals, you don't need to wear them if they are mentally uncomfortable. You don't need to be at a service. Remember in your own way, in your own time.
@SeanLaPrawn
It is little moments like this which bring tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting such a wonderful sight. Well done to both children and their parents.

I wore DMS as
@45CdoGp
yomped across the Falklands in 82. They got wet but dried a bit. I thought I'd avoided trench foot until my feet came back to life after 2 days on Canberra coming home. Ow! Me (left) and Taff Thomas RM wearing DMS. 1st drink Stanley 16 Jun 82.

It is worth noting the black vertical stripe midships on HMS Glasgow (type 42). This is to differentiate our type 42s from Argentine type 42s. A pic I took from Canberra of HMS Cardiff with its black stripe just before we sailed home.

Best SNCO in film or on TV? 🤔Three spring to mind. The R Lee Ermy as Gunnery Sgt Hartman in Full Metal Jacket. Clint Eastwood as Gunny Highway in Heartbreak Ridge. And,in a different way,John Le Mesurier as Sgt Wilson in Dad's Army.

Crossing the Line (Equator) Certificate from 9 Sep 1942 and told I could put it on social media. It was for his grandfather, Joseph Bagley, on the cruiser HMS Dauntless. It was wartime. Wow.

Sad sight. I always think of the Falklands as a War & not a Conflict. I can understand there's a political definition of a war but for me, lives lost, ships sunk, aircraft shot down, hand to hand night battles, bombs, minefields = war.

Great story, Andrew. Walking along Piccadilly a Hussar Officer I knew spotted me and dragged me into the Guards & Cavalry Club for a couple of glasses of Champagne. We served together when I was the RN Exchange Office at RAEC Beaconsfield. He was a Korea Vet.
I've seen posts about how "toxic" X is. I think toxicity is linked to what you click on. I like mil history, old churches, photos, funnies: very little toxicity. Outside of X, on TV I don't like progs with angst & shouty people, so I don't watch them.

These photos brought a tear to my eyes,Ricky. HMS Glamorgan was providing gun fire support for

on Two Sisters when she was hit by land-based Exocet and so many of her crew lost their lives.

I am in the inflatable boat being hosed down by King Neptune's Bears and scrubbed with very COOL seawater as we crossed the line (Equator). What a great set of memories and photos on this thread. 👏

For those who might not know... medal one "getting stoned" means that stones were thrown at the recipient. It has nothing to do with drug use. 🙄

Amazing piece of film. Photo I took 21 May 82 Falklands. Not same league as your film. B Echelon

In my life (born 1953) the end of the Berlin Wall in 1989 was a very significant event. I'd joined RN in 76 and Army 86. Warsaw Pact and NATO were the major forces in Europe. It was hard to imagine the fall of the Wall. Photo I took in Aug 86

I attended Rick Jolly's funeral at HMS Raleigh. In 2009 my sister asked him to sign a copy of The Red & Green Life Machine for me. I met him in 1979 at CTCRM. He wrote a novel "For Campaign Service", under the name Christopher Hawke, based on his service in N Ireland.

When I was at school in the 60s I used to write to famous people and ask if they'd send me a signed photo. I got a nice letter back from Douglas Bader and a signed photo from Kenneth More who played him in Reach for the sky.
