As soon as
@Keir_Starmer
stopped speaking, I had a call. “You’re my Labour councillor. I wanted you to know that I’ve just joined Labour. His message about care workers deserving as much respect as the Prime Minister really struck home.” Welcome to
@WitneyLabourCLP
John. 🌹❤️
Very proud to have been elected the first ever
@UKLabour
and
@CoopParty
County Councillor for
#Witney
North and East, alongside my friends Andrew Coles in Witney South and Central and Geoff Saul in Chipping Norton
In 1997 I was Labour candidate against Michael Heseltine in Henley. He never stood again. In 2015 against David Cameron, gone within 18 months. This year I am Labour candidate in the
#EuropeanElections
against Nigel Farage.
So pleased that Antonio Weiss,
@UKLabour
candidate, was the standout at Witney hustings tonight. He will make a thoughtful and effective MP for
#Witney
constituency. Vote for him.
@EiJake
I’m sorry you have found the campaign disappointing Jake. It is politics these days I guess - always a short clip out of context away from a scandal.
I saw Keir today in a farm near Chipping Norton. He was very positive, but also insistent that every vote counts. I hope he is PM
Very proud to be chosen to stand as
@UKLabour
and
@CoopParty
candidate for District and County elections in
#Witney
on May 6th. I will continue to do my best for my neighbours
Delighted to attend first County Council meeting as new Cllr for
#Witney
N&E. Particularly with my two friends Andrew Coles (Witney S&Central) and Geoff Saul (Chipping Norton). Proud to be elected Cabinet member for Transport & Development Strategy in new Oxon Fair Deal Alliance.
Delighted to sign an alliance with
@WestOxonLibDems
and
@Westoxongreens
on behalf of West Oxon Labour & Co-op group as leadership team with
@Joy8man
- we will tackle the cost of living crisis and the climate emergency to make our district fairer and cleaner place.
A recent report from
@EdinburghUni
(according to
@thetimes
) shows widespread 20mph speed limits introduced 2016-18 have led to 40% drop in collisions and 409 fewer casualties; fatalities dropped by 23%. Good news - and being followed by
@OxfordshireCC
ebike from
#Witney
to
@OxfordshireCC
County Hall today. First 15 mins steep Oxford Hill, narrow cycle path, Barnard Gate off A40 bliss, lay-by.
@OxonTravel
@cycloxoxford
Whipped in face by cow parsley, no injuries 😂
In our centenary year, Witney Labour Party has nearly doubled its West Oxfordshire District Labour Group to 9, taken half the seats on Chipping Norton Town Council, and won control of Witney Town Council. Honoured to be given support. Proud to serve.
I’m growing increasingly alarmed at the tweets from my MP
@robertcourts
in
#Witney
. We served together on
@WODCNews
for a few years, and during that time we didn’t agree on many things (he’s Conservative and I’m Labour) but we were respectful. 1/15
Mayor of Witney. I serve the whole town. Please contacts the Town Hall if you would like me to visit your school, event, business or organisation. There is a form you might like to use on the website to give details of events.
Congratulations and good luck to
@laetisiacarter
who is the new leader of the
@UKLabour
@CoopParty
group on West Oxfordshire District Council! I have loved my 8 years as leader and hope you do too!
Delighted to see a number of new transport plans come to fruition on St Frideswide’s Day, Oxford’s patron saint. 1\ New radical transport plan agreed for consultation. 2\ Bus improvement plan bid approved. 3\ 20mph policy and new approach.
We are really cooking in Witney. Labour’s message of Change is resonating - and having a Labour MP again in our area, in a new Labour Government, will bring the change we need.
@AngelaRayner
I will be supporting you all the way. During the Witney by-election when Cameron ran away you were the first to support our campaign. Heart of
@UKLabour
and voice of the country, let’s look outward and forward to serve Britain
I have launched my campaign to become the deputy leader of the Labour Party. I launched it from the Community Centre on Bridge Hall Stockport where l grew up. I cannot do this alone. l need help and support, please sign up or donate here if you are able👉
Absolutely delighted to welcome the selection of
@antonioeweiss
as
@UKLabour
candidate for
#Witney
. He is the strong confident voice we need for our constituency.
Ooh that’s me in the background of
@Keir_Starmer
tweet! He was really positive gave us a pep talk.
@RachelReevesMP
and
@darrenpjones
were upbeat. But all emphasised that Change will only happen if you vote for it. Vote
@UKLabour
on July 4th
Many thanks to the thousands of
@UKLabour
members in
@SELabour
who have voted me and mr colleagues onto the National Policy Forum. I will work for you and look forward to meeting you soon. Conference in Liverpool?
Labour people in South East - please will you vote for me for Labour’s National Policy Forum? I am a councillor in Witney (once the only one, now part of a big team with Labour in power at Town, District and County). I want a Labour Government too. 1/2
David Cameron is the man who brought us over a decade of austerity and walked away from Brexit, who only weeks ago Rishi Sunak described as part of the failed status quo. This is not the change Britain needs, but a step back into the past. 1/2
Keep Oxfordshire moving - arguing for funds to build the infrastructure for the future, including transport hubs and a new freight strategy, safer school streets, continued cheap Park and Ride. Changes to tackle congestion across the County.
So my question to
@robertcourts
is - why the statues first? What matters more: your constituents and
#Covid
, the respectful but insistent demand for rights for everyone including your black residents, or currying favour among extreme edges of Conservative opinion? 15/15
I feel such a sense of loss and sadness at leaving the EU. I hope Britain’s future is bright - I really do - and I don’t feel antipathy towards those who feel differently about Europe. I just feel very, very sad to be leaving.
Good morning from
#Witney
where we’ve had conversations about saving the
#NHS
from Tory chaos and future market expansion on High Street!
#labourdoorstep
Hey
@realDonaldTrump
it’s really unwise to call a result before all the votes have been counted. I know. Our electoral officers are the unsung heroes of democracy.
Delighted to have been Cabinet Member for Travel and Development Strategy when
@OxfordshireCC
made the decision to proceed with this. Roll on electric buses across the whole county and country!
@Oxford_Labour
@WitneyLabourCLP
New surface means the path behind
@WGSWitney
can be used by wheelchairs, bikes and pedestrians with safety and comfort. Bike to school just got safer in
#Witney
!
Congratulations to Councillor Joy Aitman who succeeded me as Mayor of Witney tonight. I know she will be brilliant, and hope she enjoys it as much as I enjoyed this - the honour of my life.
@paulwaugh
@ElaineWITV
Good luck
@paulwaugh
- your opponent has no idea how to get things done. You do. Rochdale will get a great
@UKLabour
MP in Paul, but only if we all get out to vote for Change tomorrow. 🌹
We cancelled everything last Christmas and everyone paid a price. Lost loved ones. Left family members alone at a time of year when we should be together. But Number 10 hosted parties. The people responsible must be held to account.
Cllr Coles and I completed
@witneyparkrun
today and I beat him! Mind you we both worried about not being able to stand after kneeling for this photo - bit creaky!
Proud to speak for
@UKLabour
South East team at Euro Hustings in Banbury tonight making the case for a confirmatory vote on any Brexit deal, and to
#Remain
#Rebel
and
#Transform
Europe
Hugely disappointing. This is a Government intent only on saving the boss’ job. We need to move on without the distraction of
#BorisJohnson
and address
#CostOfLivingCrisis
and
#ClimateEmergency
. If he had our interests at heart he would resign.
The Prime Minister has my full support in today’s vote.
He led
@Conservatives
to a decisive election victory. He has been dealt a v. difficult hand but has got the big calls right: Covid, vaccines & supporting Ukraine. He’s apologised for mistakes made. We must now move forward.
@robertcourts
Shame. Their actions are a profound breach of trust, and both you and I know there are many others, including in Conservative ranks, who would make a much better Prime Minister.
Delighted to be back in
@OxfordshireCC
chamber again for full council for the first time in 25 years! This time representing my neighbours in
#Witney
North and East, and as Cabinet Member for Travel and Development Strategy
