Published as early view in #ChemMedChem: our new (and maybe slightly controversial?) Perspective on the presentation of quantitative data in Medicinal Chemistry publications. Why we should try to do better and be rigorous with the way we report numbers from biological assays.

An important statement, and I have just signed it (even though I am not from the humanities or social sciences). Please repost!
Statement against the Boycott of Israeli Academics. Launched by a doctoral student at the Hebrew University, the list of signatories is very distinguished, and growing by the day.

I couldn't agree more. The poor handling of numbers in assay results is far too widespread in the Medicinal Chemistry literature, and we should do something about it (authors, reviewers, and editors). Four significant figures for assay results with 10 to 20% SD don't make sense!
Monday rant: significant figures. Folks, please don’t report an IC50 as 5.027 nM in a paper. There’s no way your measurements are that precise. This is what happens when you blindly take curve fit output from software without thinking. For most assays, 2 sig figs is about right.
