5 yrs ago today I set off for Iraq, on what was to be the beginning of a much longer journey both personally and professionally. Like all crossroads I wonder what would have been,or not, had I not gone because it changed my life in ways that I hadn’t anticipated.

Driving to HEMS shift in early hours, pretty empty roads, through the blue hour, all very peaceful...except for mistaking group of pheasants for a person in the road in the pitch black, making emergency stop and almost having an MI-yeah apart from that really peaceful start! 😳🤣

My best friends Dad had a serious accident which sadly he did not survive. I didn’t know the nature of the accident at the time, but saw a tweet from a para and I was able to put 2&2 together.

Looking at old photos with the family and came across these of my Grandad: despite a difficult childhood still one of the kindest, most moral men I’ve ever met. Also championed women in our family to be educated and independent ahead of his time. And could carry off a good Fez!

Imp to remember it's a privilege to be a healthcare professional and be there to help where we can. It's about the patient and their trust and without specific consent it's a breach. It's inappropriate from the ward or from ED- expected standards are not less pre-hospital

Day 3 complete! Total of 72km and 600 floors!! All 3 hikes very different in character. Day 3 didn’t disappoint- just spectacular all the way up and ending looking down from quite a height onto day 2’s lake and icebergs. Have to say, it felt pretty awesome to finish it all! 💪😅

EM consultants are reasonable people. If you’ve been clearly asked for an opinion then we expect just that. If the referral sounds odd, speak to us and we can usually come up with a plan together.But expecting everyone to have confirmed +ve findings b4 referral is unrealistic
