Now *this* is biphobia. Hepler always at the scene of the crime (she was the one who compared Anders’ possession to BPD). “The times were different,” less than a decade ago, not really a good excuse.
"Dear Cullenites made it so I can't romance Cullen." I respect that, but I'm powered by spite. Not only do I romance Cullen, I romance Cullen with a man so Gr*g Ell*s suffers a panic attack every time I make my Inquisitor, Dorian or Garrett Hawke kiss him on the lips.
It actually is extremely funny how 2015 Dragon Age hated your ass if you liked Cullen. They would excommunicate you, put you on several block lists, and call you ACAB. Now? 75% of my timeline is thirsting after the Fereldan devil. Glad we got the fuck over it, I want to lick him
I need to thank Greg Ellis for Dear Cullenites, now only the strongest, truest fans remain. Unlike with Astarion, I can tweet about buying a Cullen plushie to feed it to a cardboard presser or throw it filled with bird seed to pigeons and my moots will go so true king!
Actually I think the game becoming a glorified Solasmancer simulator is not good, not because I’m not a Solavellan, but because putting that much of the game’s plot onto a single character is, uh, bad writing. It actively diminishes Solas too
2 out of 3 choices (3, if you romanced him) contingent upon one character whose romance was racially and gender locked (M/F, no less) is not good writing. Origins and DLC didn't hinge upon a single character, his romance, being this pivotal. Misogyny is when we criticize men.
So like, did people make this big of a stink when Morrigan was a core story/romance in Origins + DLC, and continued to be important in 3 & 4
What about when Leliana was a romance + DLC + major role in 3 & cameo in 2? Weird how Solas (who is Fem only romance) is the bad one, hm.
"Alistair is who Cullen wishes he was." No offense to that streamer but Cullen hates nobility nor would he want to be the class clown goofball type. Famously Cullen Rutherford is too damn serious for his own good. Finally saw that bit and I'm just aight.
@foolsprocession
And then he makes true on that threat come Inquisition, but you can hand him his ass with one war table mission and Cullen on caffeine
I just think that if you're a 'community ambassador' but you block anyone who so much as breathes wrong about your pookie maybe this isn't the job for you? My sister is a diplomat, she's literally not allowed to block citizens because her appointment is to the PUBLIC
They never explained how Cullen got his lip scar and I love that. I headcanon he doesn't even remember anymore, but says, "Kirkwall," and leaves it at that
“Solavellan antis so mad, tee-hee!” No, I’m just gay and M/F will never be my default. I play Dragon Age because it gives you choices like not making M/F romances the default. I thought we all played the previous games too where this is possible
BTW, I'm not arguing it's not believable he might hide his same sex attraction somewhat, I'm arguing that the dev's reasoning for it is rooted in biphobia. "[...] a player who prefer to think of Anders as straight is welcome to do so," is biphobic. He's not straight, he's bi.
Being effeminate ≠ twink. The stereotype is thin, hairless, young, gay and (often) white. Dorian is disqualified by all in my humble FOC (fag of color) opinion.
It sucks a significant portion of the players were not given this important context because Anders stops running away from the Circle once he and Karl get together—and then he starts running away again once Karl gets transferred to Kirkwall. Anders is in Kirkwall to rescue Karl.
Greetings, DA streamer. Before you stands Lucanis Dellamorte and directly above you hangs an anvil. Your test is to talk about him without using the word 'feral' or making a reference to his 'sexy' accent. If you fail, the anvil will fall directly onto your head. Good luck.
You cannot be saying this while you have a whole web 1.0 shrine dedicated to the white hag that'd put the Catholic fags with shrines to Saint Sebastian to shame. Self-awareness found dead in Miami
The thing about the giant hole in Cullen's ceiling is that it's probably due to claustrophobia. After spending months trapped in a magical prison tortured by demons, waking up to a starry sky or blue skies is reassuring. Quite a common thing with claustrophobes
Aside from the Old Hollywood coding of Dorian's facial hair, the devs said his RL analogue would be Indian, and that style of mustache is associated with high status there. Specifically, it's considered a symbol of the Rajput caste
"Cullen has no honor." In his most popular ending he pulls a Cincinnatus by giving up his title as commander of the Inquisition and fucking off to Ferelden to be a farmer. You can dislike the man but you cannot say this stuff about Thedosian Cincinnatus in my tweets without a 🤣.
Dorian's story is important not only because he's gay but also because he's brown. LGBTs of color are under tremendous pressure to perform to a certain standard, carrying the hopes of generations before them. To be successful is to be seen as human, but at what cost?
I actually like Solas in the canon. What I don't like is every single criticism of how Bioware handled these choices dismissed as misogyny regardless of who is doing the critiquing. Every week it's, "It's actually misogynistic to dislike Solavellan because women like it."
Instead of wondering who's the woman in Hawke's relationship when you get with Anders or Fenris, Gamlen should worry about the two decades plus worth of child support payments he's about to get hit with by Kirkwall's new viscount, Varric Tethras, on behalf of one Charade Amell
The decision was taken not for Anders' sake, it was done for player convenience, i.e. bigoted people can ignore he canonically likes men for their convenience and comfort. That's biphobic.
The lack of specificity to the romances makes them unmemorable. Everyone wanting to jump your bones with little work bores me to tears. I don’t romance anyone anymore.
Actually, I don't care. Just saw someone compare Cullen to a high-ranking Nazi during Yom Kippur so, as always, none of you can be normal about fictional characters.
Fandom is barely more progressive than the average liberal space, which is why we're doomed to repeat 'let women be feminine, let men be masculine' every other week, it seems. Transformative works are dead, everyone wants to pinkwash conservative ideas like the nuclear family.
Sucks how you can’t say M/F is alienating as a gay person, a foundational topic in LGBT studies, without randoms crawling down your walls claiming you’re being a bigot because I’m uncomfortable when we’re not about me
@larkofascension
Not to mention in this instance this person QRTed it to blast OP to their thousands of followers. You can’t act like the victim while opening up people to harassment like that. Mute/block, move on if it bothers you that badly. Stop accusing randoms of bigotry.
@cuntclassique
Favorite thing about him is his capacity for growth, his commitment to kindness, then his complete lack of guile. In a cast full of people lying to you and politicking, it's nice to have a handsome Fereldan farm boy who gives it to you straight. No games. I appreciate that now.
When that c*s white girl Molotov cocktails a conservative governor’s office, call me. Otherwise this brown trans f*ggot DGAF. Donating $5 to the Trevor Project doesn’t give you a pass to enable bigots. Not how this works
You all need to understand, you cannot criticize things without caring/loving/putting time into those things. Beneath a hater there's a lover—someone who sees squandered potential, how much better things could be
The Iron Bull: If you'd been raised in the Qun they would've cut off your horns and stitched your lips. You'd be seen as a disgrace.
My Adaar, using his horns as holders for the camp donuts: Okay.
Feels fucking great to be Thedaspilled while y'all are arguing about the white hag and his VA for the 100th time. I'm imagining Cullen using Katari's horns as handlebars as he hits it from behind
Not even getting into how a M/F ship being default is alienating (it is), but because it actively removes reactivity from a series that, until now, has prided itself on Choices Matter. I have not preordered and that choice is being solidified by how hostile the devs have been
You know fandom is a liberal space because people are more concerned with politeness/civility than actual kindness. Some of the most vicious bullying I've suffered in fandom was from people who did it with the right buzzwords and a smile on their face.
@lionslavellan
Come Veilguard I hope he continues to plant beans at his farm in the Bannorn. "I know I said I'd keep my sword arm ready, but...the harvest..."
tl;dr: I don't mind he's important in Veilguard, I mind his romance has been elevated unlike the rest by what little choices remain being tied to him. I mind that Solavellans act like they're oppressed because other people, usually LGBT, have valid critiques
@mybhaals
For those in the audience, all you have to do is interact with ‘Solas haters’ (anyone who has even the most benign criticism of him) and/or say something ‘negative’ about the 🥚, even if you’re joking, and she’ll block you
It's extremely annoying how you can't state, "I see this character as a gay man/a lesbian," or, "I don't want to see M/F," without a bunch of insecure LGBTs calling it erasure, or a bunch of straight people bragging about all the het sex they're having with that character. Enough
Logging off because as a survivor it does piss me off how people in fandom think only they are the most moral survivor, only their experiences and concerns matter. Only in fandom have I been told I’m dangerous for sharing my experiences. And it’s always in defense of the same
I'm glad we're starting to speak up on how obnoxious and mean-spirited it is for 1k+ follower fandom accounts to QRT dunk much smaller accounts for imagined crimes, calling them bigots over fictional characters.
I don’t give a shit a white woman was ‘bullied’ off the internet over deserved criticism. Meanwhile the people calling us bullies was a racist in the BG3 fandom with a documented history of just that, trying to rebrand. You all don’t give a shit about POC so I don’t care back
understandable reasons (I'm a fag), keep getting told to shut up and deal with it. I play Dragon Age precisely because it has romances and writing that doesn't cater to M/F like the entire rest of the world. And people acting like they're oppressed for these critiques?
Like how out of touch do you have to be to say stuff like this? Someone being disappointed their worldstate no longer matters + a certain character is the special-est boy now isn't equivalent to TRANSPHOBIA. Log off
Fandom will NEVER beat the anti-intellectualism allegations. We live in anti-intellectual times, and the way people are retaliating because how dare people express justified disappointment and anger at a staple mechanic of a video games series being scrapped is, well, LOL LMAO
If fandoms hate anything is seeing a friend group having fun and making jokes. This will 90% of the time net you some weird one-sided grudge from some fool you’ve never spoken to in your life
People were frothing at the mouth because ‘monosexual representation’ was not as progressive as making him bisexual. We will NEVER get another character like Dorian
astarion can romance women because they saw how mad people got about dorian pavus and decided to let people fulfill the dream of making a gay man straight for them
I was, I shit you not, at the Statue of Liberty. I found out from a bunch of Irish tourists who started singing, "Lizzie is dead! Lizzie is dead!" I joined in. Wherever you all are, hope you have a good one!
While people argue about how it's taking away representation from others to headcanon characters with certain sexualities, I fujo'd out so hard I transitioned into a man so I could live out my yaoi fantasies (fucking and marrying men). Please get on my level before coming for me
IDGAF about OC stealing but the way every white woman with 2K followers here gets her feelings hurt and you all harass WOC with slurs while villainizing them while you all quake in your boots because she used bitch but y’all use f*ggot and other slurs gleefully…
I made the same criticisms when I still identified as a woman, hadn't transitioned. And you know what I got told? "Work on your internalized misogyny." Just because this fandom, and fandom as a whole, happens to be overwhelmingly women (like 70%!) doesn't mean everyone here is
It’s actually been funny watching Solavellans fight for their lives against (deserved) criticism with the most unhinged, inappropriate takes. Not all Solavellans but always a Solavellan at the scene if the crime
