Property taxes are higher in Illinois because suburban Republican school districts want “The best teachers money can buy” and property taxes are the only way to pay.
In Governor Rauner’s hometown, 94% of teachers have advanced degrees. 1/6
Illinoisans' property taxes are 2nd-highest in the U.S. due to high pension costs.
But the Illinois Constitution's pension clause doesn't mention taxes. So those weren't real property tax hikes.
Sound nuts? That's the logic of an Amendment 1 supporter.
