Once again for the fellas who don’t get it:
If you were attacked by a dog you would of course know that not every dog will attack you. But you will never know which dogs will attack and which won’t, so you’d be wary of all dogs
(now switch out ‘dogs’ for ‘men’)
I’m 28. I’ve lived in Ireland my whole life. Today I’m moving away from it. First and foremost because there’s adventure to be had elsewhere. But also because it’s increasingly unaffordable for young people to live here anymore.
I’m currently being blackmailed by someone who has naked images of me and is asking me for €2000 in order to prevent them being posted, which I’m obviously not gonna do. So if you see images of me somewhere, enjoy them I guess!
Tell me you’re Irish without telling me you’re Irish. I’ll go first
The airport in my town is closed for the next 10 weeks even though there was just a full 18 month period of no travel where they could have easily closed for the 10 weeks
In Cork there's an aul' fella who buys eggs in supervalu in Macroom, gets the bus up to town and roams the estates of Douglas and Blackrock selling said eggs door to door. His name is the Egg Man
I just got the best news of my entire life.
MY BOOK IS GETTING PUBLISHED.
I got accepted by a publisher lads. I literally spoke this into existence and it’s finally happening.
‘MON IRELAND!

Fellas, if you were bitten by a dog once, you'd of course know in your head that not all dogs will bite you in the future, but I guarantee you'd still be weary of all dogs just in case one of them did try and bite you again.
Living in a country where the media keeps telling men to talk more about their mental health and then slates a man for talking openly about his own mental health experience
This is a dissapointing article.I consistently tell my podcast listeners, that when I speak about mental health, I do it from a perspective of personal experience.That I'm not qualified. And when I speak to actual experts on the podcast, I let it be known.
The media swarming like vultures to cash-in on what’s happened to me this week is gross. Just randomly emailing asking for pictures, not even concerned with how I’m feeling. RTE has reached out several times & when I enquire about the fee paid they suddenly decide not to cover it
This might seem bizarre, but I’m honestly sort of at a place of gratitude about everything? The biggest concern in my life at the moment is that people might see my todger? If that’s the biggest worry, I’m doing alright. Life is ultimately good 💛
The true genius of
@shitlondonguinn
is that there is now a network of pint drinkers, both anonymous and in their thousands, who are forcing pubs to up their pint-pulling game. When anyone could be your downfall you have to maintain a perfect standard for everyone. Incredible work
Interestingly, there’s been some shaming today (by men and women) about my personal nudegate. Now, 99% of people have been extremely supportive, but the shaming is surprising given the world we live in, and given that what’s being threatened is sexual assault.
Genuinely shocked but ultimately delighted to say I have won the Cork Art's 'From The Well' Short Story Competition 2021. My story - Evening Walk - will be published later this year as part of an anthology. Feeling very grateful!!
Today marks 11 years since my best pal took his own life.
In the early years I always felt sad and angry on this day, but now I just like to remember the good times, the dumb and funny things we used to get up to, the many, many jokes and laughs.
Thank God the GAA is back. That has solved everything now, the GAA being back 🙌 Thank God for the GAA, the solution to all problems 🤝 Up the GAA! No need to worry about mental health, or schools, or case numbers anymore, the GAA is home and we’re all happy

Just handed in my notice at work. Going travelling from next month on. Writing on the road. Figuring it out as I go. The dream is finally becoming reality. Exciting times!
My grandfather passed this morning. The funniest man in a given room - a great storyteller. I was fortunate enough to see him again last week
"Whos' that? He looks familiar"
"That's Daragh, he's your grandson"
"...by God!"
They'll have good craic with him in the place beyond
Guys, I am VERY excited to say that I've just signed a contract with
@brokensleep
for a collection of non-fiction essays out in March 2025! So happy to find a home for this work with such an incredible press. Thanks to
@GodzillaKent
and the team for believing in the work 💙
Well lads, I’ve just received an offer to publish my SECOND BOOK! The good news has been sparse lately so this one means a lot! Early doors yet, but Book II is coming
#DrinkWater
One of my poems has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize 🥹 I never expected anyone to ever publish my poems, let alone think they were good enough to nominate, so this is surreal!
It brings me great joy and blows my mind to say that, Enigmatic, my debut poetry collection, will be released by Sunday Morning at the River this October
It's 9 years today since my best friend killed himself. I miss him everyday. The shockwaves of it still have their effects. When you choose suicide you don't end the pain, you pass it forward. I wish he could see how far we've come with mental health. Be kind to yourselves!
It looks like we're heading into very tough times, especially with the darkness of winter. It's more important now than ever to keep in contact with your friends make sure they're doing okay!
The gyms are back next week, huzzah! I hope everyone who cited mental health when they closed continues to campaign for mental health services in the coming months. It'd be awfully suspect if ye stopped talking about it as soon as the gyms reopened
The fact that some right-wingers think it’s a slam dunk to bring up that I think it’s a good idea to welcome immigrants to Ireland is absolutely hilarious
Best picture ever from my book launch. This is my Nan. The woman is 90. The first thing she did when she came in was give out to me for not reminding her it was my birthday
3 of us in the house. I've tested negative, the two lads have tested positive. We're now playing the most high stakes game of Hide and Seek I've ever been involved in
If the last 24 hours have taught us anything it’s that we should tell people how we feel about them while they’re still here. We shouldn’t wait until a person is gone to give them their flowers. We should tell people how much we love them.
In Irish you don’t say ‘I am sad’ you say ‘tá brón orm’ which means ‘sadness is on me’ and I’ve always liked that because it shows that you aren’t the emotions you feel. They’re just on you for awhile and then they leave. You don’t have to identify with them
POV: you’re in Spain working on an essay, drinking coffee. the sun is shining. Writing has gotten you here, somehow. There are lovely views and even lovelier people everywhere. There is gratitude.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. The best way I know to prevent suicide is to talk openly about your mental health, because when you do this you let others know that it’s okay to talk about their struggles too.
Have at least one conversation about mental health today.
My mental health book was rejected this morning, not because the book isn’t good, but because I don’t have enough followers?
So if there’s any agent/publisher out there interested in a non-fiction book about mental health who doesn’t care about follower counts, I’d love to chat!
I just want to acknowledge that my brother is currently 76km into a 200km ultramarathon and I’m extremely proud of him. An entirely different kind of gravy. Pure inspiration.
I had a short story that I’d been trying to get out there for well over a year. It’s now in a literary journal next to Kevin Barry.
Moral of the story: If you believe in the work and put the effort in, someone else will believe in it too!
This week was one of the most challenging of my life, and I had to deal with a lot of hurt people saying hateful things. But I still wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone, even those who hate. Lead with compassion. I think that’s been the learning!
Penneys is open 24 hours but we can't even get a functioning national mental health service. I guess retail therapy is more important than actual therapy
Lonely Boy is an open conversation about mental health but it’s also bery much a tribute to Erbie, who we lost almost 11 years ago. So it means everything to me that his mother, Karen, is finding some comfort in what I wrote about him ❤️
Somebody said to me recently, “Worry about how you make people feel rather than worrying about what they think of you”, and I can’t stop thinking abiut how wise that is.
It’s hard to believe that my best friend took his own life 10 years ago today, but this is the reality of it. If you are thinking of ending your own life, please reach out for help. There are people who need you to stick around. Your life is worth living.
Finally get to reveal some extremely exciting news.
After meeting
@susanjanemcken1

@BookHubPublish
in Limerick today, I can’t believe I get to say we’ll be putting out my mental health book by the end of the year! HUGE day!!
There’s no way to rectify the situation without Bernard O’Byrne being removed. People won’t stand for anything less & they’re dead right. Basketball Ireland need to stop dragging out the inevitable & start taking CVs because the longer this goes on the worse they look
Totally blown away. Just been informed that my blog is nominated for Blog of the Year and ironically - micro-influencer of the year - with The Mental Health Blog Awards. Voting begins on April 29th!
