Bit of great personal news.
I'm beyond excited to finally be able to tell people that from September 4 I'll be taking up the time of Artistic Director at
@BrieryGap
. You can read the press release at the link below.
See ye in the Briery Gap next year!
I spent €50 for a 3 minute phone call with my GP last week about a mental health issue (I'm fine). He said he'd refer me to regional MH services, but I I'd be waiting 2 years for an appointment. Just got a text to say referral was rejected. MH services in Ireland are a disgrace.
Isn't it a great little country we have all the same, that we can have a man named "Fionnán" debate a man called "Spice Bag" on national television, and somehow the man named after a takeaway order is the calm, polite, intelligent one. ❤️ 🇮🇪
Honestly
@paramore
put on a stellar show last night, but when Hayley Williams started a sentence with "Last time we came to the UK..." the ENTIRE CROWD vocally turned on her SO FAST that I thought she'd end up being dragged off stage and up to Rob Kearney's house...

I feel very lucky that growing up in Tipp we had an incredibly warm, open, and progressive priest. Went by his first name, set up the local folk group and athletic club. Never made a judgement on anybody. He's the only reason I stayed in the church as long as I did. (cont...)

Refreshing my screen all day hoping for positive news on Scott Hutchinson. Frightened Rabbit have helped me get through some awful, awful times over the last decade. Hopefully Scott can fight off his own demons once again and come home.

@paramore
She didn't even get to the end of her sentence, which was "... Dolores O'Riordan from the Cranberries had just died, and I just really wished we'd been doing a show in Ireland." She then had to concede that she should've said "went to the UK" to appease us. We are a gas country.
The issue here isn't MY treatment, which, again, isn't of urgent concern. The problem is that if I had all the symptoms of skin cancer, or eczema, or breathing problems, I'd be taken seriously and seen as quickly as possible. I'd never be refused from assessment for treatment.
Absolutely living for the former priest on

suggesting that Fr. Sheehy is just in the closet before being shut down by a panicked Joe. Closes the interview with the message for him to "Grow a pair of balls". Absolute scenes!!! 🔥🔥🔥
CMAT just gave a terrifyingly powerful speech addressing the issue and supporting trans people before playing her closer "I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby" to an uproariously supportive Main Stage crowd. Hes, shes, and they's around me all in tears. Me included.

Many passengers in tears here in

flights changing constantly. So much frustration. Many people with young families stuck here for hours and hours. Dublin Airport is a mess.

Personally I'm not going to be walking around concerned that somebody is going to accuse me of murder. I'm confident I've never murdered anybody. If people are genuinely concerned about being accused of sexual assault then maybe they're not so confident of their own innocence...
Absolute scenes in Macroom as

Just to reiterate, I'm absolutely fine. I know hearing "Mental Health" sets off alarm bells, but this is in relation to an ongoing undiagnosed condition I'm now 99.9% confident I suffer from, which, if treated, could make a huge difference to my life.
There is no way to separate Catholic doctrine from being a practising Catholic, so even if you personally have progressive views, there IS great harm in supporting and participating in the church when it has proven time and time again that it hasn't got a moral leg to stand on.
People find solace in religion, and I'd never discourage people from believing in something that helps them to get through their days. But there is no God that I want to affiliate myself with who allows his representatives on earth to spout bile while enabling horror.
There's a good chance I don't even have the condition I suspect I do. That's not even really the point. The point is I can't find out because the waiting lists are so long that they've literally refused to see me. There also aren't any private options in Cork according to my GP.
I had the crushing realisation that even my tentative connection to such an insidious institution was enabling it. I was essentially volunteering my time to raise support for the most evil corporation on the planet. So I decided I was completely done. I've never looked back.
But if you passively support the church, and you don't speak out against it or use your position to apply pressure on it to change (and good luck with that), then you are supporting not only hatred against those who are most vulnerable, but signifying to others that it's ok.
I remember crying in the cinema after seeing the movie "Spotlight", when the credits rolled and they displayed all the town's and cities in the world where child sex abuse had been covered up by the Catholic church. Ireland appeared on page after page after page of that list.
Today I officially became a member of
@SocDems
. I've been incredibly impressed for a long time by their TDs' commitment to the arts, mental health, and social justice issues. These last few months they've convinced me they mean what they say. Looking forward to getting involved.
I stayed in the church as long as I did because that priest made me feel like it was a force for good. But my experience did not reflect reality or the experience of millions of people who've suffered at the hands of the church.
We should not continue to spread delusions.
@TheFatConsol3R
"Can it get out of the Loch" is the terrifying question that nobody has ever thought to ask before now but suddenly feels incredibly important...
The

are embarrassingly transparent in their efforts to push
@finn_mcredmond
's deranged piece of out of touch, pro-government slurry this morning. The journalists selling their souls with the same "this is excellent, actually" copy-paste line should be mortified.
If there is a God (I don't know if there is), then I'd imagine I'll be fine when I shuffle off my mortal coil. I'd like to think so will the priest from my childhood who saw people as his calling, not religion, and often contradicted church doctrine.
So today I managed to find one of my favourite Twitter users the ideal man she invented for herself nine months ago.
Form an orderly queue, all ye pining, lovesick fools.
On a totally unrelated note to yesterday's example of terrible journalism, the editor of an Irish "news" site once sent the Gardai to my parents house accusing me of making threats against his wife. It was a different Mike Ryan, he'd just searched the name on Twitter.

Are you suggesting that the finance spokesperson is less able for a finance role than somebody with responsability for a totally different area? Get in the bin. We're all more stupid for having read your tweet.
Weird that
@NiallCollinsTD
has had comments turned off all his tweets for weeks now. I suppose he's afraid of questions. Maybe he'd rather wait to answer them on the doorsteps. It wouldn't be my personal choice of action tbh...
📣Good news confirmed to me this evening by the Department of Education. St. Fergus National School in Glin have been approved for a Special Education Classroom and a Mainstream Classroom🚧🛠️
When he was eventually moved on because the older parish priest didn't like him, me and a friend took over the folk group for a while, but I started to distance myself as I entered my 20s, only going to mass to play music at Christmas. I thought the music brought joy, so how bad?

I was in a local pub in the run up to Christmas that year when a neighbour told me they were looking forward to Christmas mass, because they only go once a year, to see the folk group play. My heart sank.

I think a lot of them only realised in the last 24 hours when it started to blow up online. PQ had the trans flag up for two songs and openly referenced why from the stage. Dunno if anybody else engaged with it.
I just had the thought that with everybody self isolating at present, if

This is like a piece of performance art. I'd watch a durational version of him calmly speaking to Trump like he's a child after throwing a tantrum for least 3 hours without interval.
I was wondering why I'd been receiving lovely messages from friends all morning. I'm still over the moon to have been selected for two Gap Days this year. I can't wait to be in

working on a new project I'm incredibly passionate about and can't wait to share with ye.
Today's the day.

Isn't that exactly what taxes should be spent on? And I don't think her work in the hospitality industry taught her as much as maybe her degree in economics did?
This is the only correct take on "cancel culture" in comedy. Though the hosts laughing maniacally while he's making a serious point is a pretty unnerving watch...
I just suddenly got really upset for absolutely no reason while ending a video call with some friends. This lockdown is starting to get to me I think. I need to go for a run or something. Keep reaching out to your friends lads. These are mad times.
It's a difficult situation, but the people of Macroom are far from ignorant about the situation, and neither is
@Bambiethug
. They still wanted to turn up to show their support for an incredible local artist, and boy oh boy have they. ❤️
Recently my nephew told me he was selling homemade bookmarks for 30c each. I told him I'd pay €5 for 10. He just dropped these 3 off. I asked where the other 7 were. It turns out he has SUB-CONTRACTED HIS FRIEND TO DO THE OTHERS FOR 20 CENT!
I'VE CREATED A FUCKING CAPITALIST!!!
@UnaMullally
It also perpetuates a class system as often only people from well off families can afford to work for free.
Sadly most people have no other choice if they want initial experience in their field.
I really can't praise
@Murray_Connolly
enough. A huge support/driver in keeping my friends and I fit and positive during the pandemic, in addition to literally saving lives in the ICU, now he's cycling from Cork to Dublin over the next 2 days in aid of a host of charities.

Didn't have the required fiver cash on me one night at the door during a particularly long Costello's binge. Flan said "You're alright, you'll get me next time" and waved me in.
Didn't return FOR 5 MONTHS, and when I arrive at the door I'm greeted by a grinning Flan:
"Tenner".
Got myself some new headshots just in time for some exciting, soon-to-be-announced news. 🤫
Thanks to
@Sadhbhmcl
for the incredible pics. (And to Mammy Ryan for the good "better-looking-the-older-you-get" genes).
Exciting times ahead!!

The girl sitting across the aisle from me on the bus has been doing her makeup with a large mirror and the torch on her phone since I fell asleep 2 hours ago and I have zero judgement for her because I dunno where she's going, but when she gets there she's👏going👏to👏look👏fab.

#GapDay
is back!
38 artists are being paid to take 59 Gap Days in venues across the island later this year.
Thrilled to have been selected for MAKE this year.
I can't wait to get stuck into development of my newest project, and absolutely buzzing for you all to see it a bit further down the line.
A massive thank you to the application readers, various stakeholders, and advice givers.
HI JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER TO SAVE YOUR WORK REGULARLY AND MAYBE AT LEAST ONCE, TOTALLY APROPOS OF NOTHING AND DEFINITELY NOT RELATED TO MY GAP DAY, AN ENTIRE MORNING'S WORK OR MS WORD UNEXPECTEDLY CRASHING.
@deshocks
a) considering joining the Social Dems, would consider Labour if they got back to their roots and booted Kelly.
b) Ready to get involved in direct provision if there was clear leadership on the campaign.
c) Repealing Ronán Mullen and Mattie McGrath.
I want to say thank you to everybody who reached out, engaged or shared my tweet these past 24 hours. I'm still pursuing alternative options myself, but what's abundantly clear from the engagement is that this country is all talk when it comes to mental health.
Happy
#InternationalDogDay
from me and her ladyship (Penny), and an emphatic f*** you to whatever stupid d***head abandoned her on the motorway a year and a half ago.

At what stage in this insipid ordeal will FF actually step in and say enough is enough with the stream of blatantly crooked behaviour from emanating from

Niall Collins was one of seven councillors who voted to sell public land his wife had asked to buy from the council a month earlier.
Collins's wife is now in negotiations to sell the council five social housing units on the site.
