#SnowDayThoughts a Thread🧵 I sure love what I get the opportunity to do every day: Teach and Coach. Pass on a bunch of lessons from people I’ve had the opportunity to be coached by, learn from, coach with, and coach for. It’s a special calling and a special way of life.

You know who doesn't allow trophies unless everyone gets one in youth sports? Norway. You know who is excelling at the highest level in sports? Norway. The "participation trophy" complaints are BS. We ARE achievement focused in the US in youth sports AND schools. And it doesn't work that well. Just ask a coach or teacher. Schools are entirely focused on test scores, because that's what their evaluation and funding are tied to. An excessive focus on achievement generally loses talent. They quit sports and become apathetic and uninterested in school. Research shows us that a teaching environment that supports and emphasized mastery, where students focused on the process of learning and comprehension instead of a comparison to others is linked to better grades. And more importantly stoking intrinsic motivation and promoting challenge seeking. It's the same in sports. It's not that we don't need competition...It's that we already live in a world with a ton of it...and excess comparison. When we add fuel to that fire, it pushes the vast majority of people to fear of failure and avoidance. Mastery approaches balance out the equation. So...don't listen to Vivek. Go see what Norway is doing where you can't keep score until age 13...and their motto is "Joy of Sport for All." They keep more talent in the system, develop intrinsic motivation, and thrive at the elite level. Our survival of the fittest system loses talent along the way...

Two fan favorites going at it during the competition period: DT Aeneas Peebles vs OL Grey Zabel DL won most of the day, but not this rep. Zabel remains very impressive
