Most bishops will not consider someone a candidate for Seminary for at least 3 years after they have become Orthodox, meaning this person should under no circumstances be teaching anyone anything for at least the first 3 years. Be quiet and live the faith for a bit.

St. Porphyrios of Kavsokalyvia kept a pocket Gospel in his pocket and would read it when traveling, in waiting rooms, basically whenever we mindlessly scroll. If you don't have a pocket new testament, I highly encourage you to get one.

A big issue is many Americans want what took generations in Orthodox nations overnight. American converts need to embrace the faith as it has been given to them and pass it onto their children, and so on. In this way the culture will be baptized. This can't be forced.

I'm 32, married for 8 years, 3 kids, and on a single income, which I'm told is an impossibility for my generation that nobody will ever dream of achieving.
One of the weird parts about being 35 and married for 13 years with 4 kids and a bunch of working class church friends doing the same is listening to the world scream non stop that what we do every day is literally impossible.

This or any other site can never provide you with an Orthodox catechism. I pray that all who encounter orthodoxy on here allow their local parish to be their primary source of spiritual formation, followed by the rule given by their priest.

This would be anyone who seeks to articulate the faith or defend it directly with non-orthodox.
The faith is not truly known until it is lived out for a sustained period. This is sadly ignored by many, and it is spiritually harmful.

Update: followed up with my doctor and it appears to be isolated and likely caused from dehydration. Concussion is confirmed, keeping it easy until the weekend, when I will resume Paschal festivities. Christ is Risen! Thank you all for your prayers.

Working in an evangelical church (worship team) was one of the major factors in my becoming Orthodox. Being told that music written a year or two prior was no longer relevant and couldn't be used for worship was a clear sign that nothing would ultimately be safe from change.

I do not debate on the internet, especially theology. If you try to argue I simply will not engage. It is more often than not spiritually harmful to have these discussions online, so don't even start.

St. Ignatius of Antioch discusses this in detail in his epistles- Judaism is the heresy that killed the prophets, mixed with idolaters, and ultimately killed Christ and reject His Church. This is distinct from the Jewish people who were faithful to God and embraced Christ.

I finished this book on Friday. I highly recommend it. In short: it is an act of love to care for our departed loved ones from death to grave, and church communities should be willing and able to assist in this act. Funerals do not have to cost a fortune, and often do because

How many internet induced existential crises would be avoided if people tried fixing their stuff. Cars, plumbing, you name it. Get tools, read a manual, and suffer through your problems in the real world. Whatever happens on here is easily ignored when we live in reality.

I deleted the apps when I was a catechumen, it is a major help. A flip phone is also useful, or a Light phone, that will likely be my next phone (currently have a cheap flip phone).

I was once shown a "rectory" at a parish that was 2 windowless rooms off the side of the social hall and the parish warden said any priest and his family would be greedy if they asked for more. They still do not have a priest.

In the ROCOR Mid-American diocese this is a rule, Archbishop Peter has been very clear about it. I'm sure other bishops have other standards, but he doesn't like when people who come into the Church with Christian names are given a different name.

Thankfully I was able to do a temporary fix while crawling through junkyards to find the replacement part, which I got today. First time I've pulled from a junkyard for a repair, that is a wild experience.

1- The Nativity of the Forerunner is one of the Great Feasts of the Church. The common claim that there are 12 Great Feasts is mistaken. There are 15, the other 3 being the Nativity and Beheading of the Baptist and Ss. Peter and Paul.
