What did your church or the family’s church offer for help? Do you normally just cold call people expecting them to hand over money? Churches are no different. If you only knew how common these calls are then you understand why they “don’t do that” or just can’t do it.
I called 13+ churches in my area asking if they could help a family whose water was about to get shut off and they all said some version of, "No, we don't do that." They acted Like I was weird for asking.

We orthodox share a lot of common beliefs and piety with Roman Catholics. For this we tend to get lumped in together by Protestants but we differ in many important ways that can’t be ignored which keeps them separated from Orthodoxy.
