@manxmatty @iamthewalrus74 Empty homes are a good source of new homes; but those 6000 units are not all empty & ready for occupation though. For instance banning local people having second homes & tourist properties will prove controversial. The refurbishment cost of others is huge.

@ManxFreeState @Gedpower For what purpose though, beyond political & social argument? We know the trend of the economy from things like VAT and other leading indicators like confidence in any case. Island cannot afford to be mini-UK and it does not need to be.

RT @joeyconc: @christhomasiom @chiwawamaster8 @Gedpower My concern is any decline is attributed to a hangover from Covid, ‘global pressures…

@chiwawamaster8 @joeyconc @Gedpower Fair point. There were 3 consecutive YEARS of real GNP decline. But I have been making point for a decade that the size & proportion of corporate income in our national income - 2/3rd share rather than more normal 1/3rd - matters. Personal income trend matters most here.

@ManxFreeState @Gedpower Remember personal income is not in VAT system, nor is much corporate income. I guess a leading indicator could be derived from that and other sources, but why go to the expense and trouble?

@chiwawamaster8 @joeyconc @Gedpower There’s no conspiracy. Our national income data is compiled from tax returns which are annual. Other countries have other data from which they estimate quarterly national Income.

@manxmatty @iamthewalrus74 Morning. I think your 10 year wait policy - unless nuanced - would stop somewhere like Former Nurses Home being rented, & the supply of new apartments should help both availability & affordability.

@SamNazarko @MichaelJosem @Gedpower There are four quarters in a year!!! Have you looked at the annual real GNP figures?

@jonnymanx12 @johnwebsteriom @ManxFreeState @Gedpower UK does not have statistics on Isle of Man population or migration. The Island’s population estimates were published a couple of days ago and show apparently no growth in 2024

@johnwebsteriom @ManxFreeState @Gedpower We were in recession with three years of real national decline. We might still be.

@ManxARC Do you mean means tested vehicle duty? Or no vehicle duty given income tax is progressive? I disagree with both those proposals

@mksox @LawrieHooper Fair question. I accept surveys in their own terms, and this one arrives with much consideration of its potential bias & critical evaluation of other approaches!

@wooly_craig Those reports are written easily once collection & calculation of important data is carried out. Mostly they are vital. I agree however quarterly employment & inflation reports are all that is needed, not monthly. The statistics team is small & I doubt its size has increased.

@Fit2You Afternoon. Is this generalised, or is it about something specific in my manifesto? I remain content with my manifesto but disappointed in the Government, which I did not join, except to contribute to sorting out specific problems.

@iamthewalrus74 Sadly your assumptions might well be right. Certainly your policy suggestion is spot on.

@J_SH1_IM4 PS I am not sure it matters now they are published, and I believe plan is to publish earlier in future. What really matters is accuracy & publication.
