I'm not sure how many @UNC folks I'm connected to here, but I wanted to share a resource. I recently called NC's attorney general to ask that he take legal action against Trump's anti-DEI executive orders that threaten academic freedom. Sharing here in case others find it useful

@PsychRabble @wsilviapsych None of this bodes well for UNC faculty at the moment, but we'll have to see a) how it's enforced, and b) whether academic freedom groups take legal action against it. (The AAUP has already filed a case in Maryland, which is good.)

@wsilviapsych If enforced and not challenged in the courts, this will be bad. I can’t imagine a world where UNC will still be able to offer majors in sociology, gender studies, African studies, or Asian studies, just to name a few. Certain programs may also lose their accreditation.

Many definitions of democracy are backward-looking—has the current leader been fairly elected? But definitions of democracy *ought* to be forward-looking—will the next election be free and fair, such that power can still rotate at the will of the people?

It looks as though some courses that are required for majors can be exempt from this policy on a case-by-case basis (with approval from the chancellor and board of governors), but the memorandum looks pretty sweeping. It's publicly available here:
