Lots of articles of late are saying things like "rent control remains rare due to landlord opposition." This is very misleading. Sure, landlords oppose it. But who cares? More importantly: SCIENCE opposes rent control. And history, too. Here are better sources to cite:

10% week over week increase...and while no one stat is the end all be all...I PROMISE you if you build more market housing THEN market would moderate in rental pricing. I pinky promise you that.

Can someone explain why a wooden box with 2 shelves and a door is going to cost $25,000? The best woodworkers/carpenters in Chicago could likely build the same or better pantry for 10% of that. Apparently, the 33rd ward alderman thinks this is an efficient use of taxpayer funds.

Daniel Hertz is not a knowledgable person in housing construction yet somehow he had a impact in housing here in Chciago?? Many (not all) academics display this contempt because they are operating from a space of insecurity of their own supposed expertise when faced with those that actually do it. I would tag him...but intellectual giant that he is, he blocked me...why? Cause ignorance only survives in a vacuum.

@lacherbauer The end use of housing has has no impact on the cost of the building of it..cabinets that are sold don't have a two tier system of cost based on their end use...if anything you can get cheaper finishes for rentals. Dan=dumb here.

Jesus christ Daniel, did you just say that the build cost is more expensive because of the end use? Lol omg..buildings don't know what they are gonna be used for..Cabinet makers don't ask "so are these rental cabinets? Cause if so I'll charge you more" my sub contractor doesn't give two separate rates for a concrete pour based on use...you sir have no business experience and NO CLUE The cost to build is the cost to build and affordable units as they are designed are a total rip off. @AJManaseer @susanamendoza10 @NBOACHICAGO1 @Chacon312 @Austin__Berg @StuLoren @JennyGooz @CYimby @ChiYIMBY @JoeHoulihan35th

Carlos Rosa @35th_Ward is definitely anti housing..proactively downzoning a building to B3-1 is straight up anti housing in an area that needs more of it. 2451 Kedzie could easily be converted to lofts..at least it used to be a easy conversion. Don't give alders like this a pass...this signals to home builders don't come here. @ChiYIMBY @AbundantHomesIL @BlockClubCHI @CYimby

@greenfieldjohn @prashanth_karri More housing is great, John, but the real answer is broadly building more market housing and not creating more barriers to the housing business Again, this project should be approved..but the real solution is broader policy embracing housing.

It's so refreshing to see a piece that actually understands the positive impact that increased housing supply has on affordability.
