Are you discussing the country that welcomed your family from Uganda and supported them making a home here or are you referring to some other nation?
@HughRBrechin
Living in a house that you own isn't "expensive", is it? The trouble with the "just move somewhere else and downsize" argument is that it does involve huge expense, not least Stamp Duty. Also, it is a known that moving can be one of the most stressful events in life. Any argument
@AllisonPearson
Something I learned quite early was that if you can't explain something from your field to someone who doesn't have your specialised knowledge, then it's your fault, not theirs. If the PM doesn't get what you are saying, maybe you are talking nonsense.
@jayemdee63
Not at all. Our 600 Parliamentarians have now seen the man in person, up close, and heard him speak. I'll trust their judgement. That's what they're there for. Any issues about corrupt regimes are for later.
@paullewismoney
That Richard Branson and Bernie Ecclestone received Winter Fuel Payments was always a nonsense and they won't miss it. But there are going to be millions of couples who lose the payment, who won't qualify for Pension Credit and who will sorely miss it.
@AllisonPearson
They've spent over a year looking at other countries and now they can't say "Look how well Sweden/Germany/France/Austria etc are all doing." they're a bit stuck.
@thepaulwilliams
Ah, but you can wait until the day of exchanging contracts and present a bunch of silly issues that can only be solved by lowering the price.
@KateWilliamsme
My tuppence worth is that as an historian, you should stick to discovering and interpreting history and avoid being associated with making it.
@guyverhofstadt
Brexiters do not care whether the EU breaks up or not. It was about our independence. That is all.
Much of the stress in our union can be traced to devolution driven by the EU regional strategy that bypasses national governments. Go well.
@BBCkatyaadler
Katya, I haven't seen any statement by the UK Government commenting on the EU position. The PM took great pains to tell journalists yesterday that it was a matter between our EU friends and AZ. Do you have other quotes? 🤔
@maybulman
@uncleporkie
It is the duty of Civil Servants to support their ministers and to turn Government policy into action. They certainly should not set ministers up to fail. Perhaps Priti Patel felt that such thanks were not appropriate.
@piersmorgan
@GMB
@BorisJohnson
No, Piers. If you want class acts on your show, ring their agents and pay their fees. We pay our taxes for Ministers to run the country not to have them shouted at by you for entertainment.
@Martha_Gill
@thetimes
There. Somebody's said it now. At last. The penny dropped for me in my 40s when going through one of those "change programmes". The hard workers were passed over and the bullshiters, liars and presentees were promoted, including some later found to have been on warnings.
@MarcherMedia1
I'm old enough to remember when there were about half a dozen cases of political asylum in a decade. A couple of spies, a ballet dancer and some Olympic athletes.
@__BP__
Another well known scam was for two people to take trolleys into a Bootle supermarket & to pick identical shopping lists. One would pay and leave but send a waiting child into the store with the receipt in case the other shopper was stopped as they exited without paying.
@paulroyall
You guys need to think about why journalists have to stand outside empty buildings in unseasonably cold weather when we out here know it's all a silly charade.
Why is
@bbclaurak
reporting on operational matters re NHS Test and Trace? What are the Health and Medical Editors doing today? Or are opportunities to snipe at the Government reserved matters for her? Fed up with this.
@DominicFarrell
I've never heard or read a good word said about him apart from the stated facts about his service career. Once he left the Navy, he went off a cliff.
@rachshabi
Rachel, Many people deride the Tory Party for having shifted so far to the liberal left that it has lost its claim to be a centre right party. As the Tories obliterated the LibDems and mauled Labour at the last election, those people may have a point. Do you agree?
@Lesqueenb
It is surprising when you consider the wealth of talent and ability on the Labour benches. Oh ...I just did... and the only alternative was Emily Thornberry.🙄🙂

@ElContador2000

@brexitparty_uk
There's also the small matter of news outlets having to give fair shares of coverage to all parties in an election, you know, impartiality? A new concept for our Remain friends to get to grips with.
@bbclaurak
It's an important principle that the viewing public has relevant questions asked on its behalf. You abused privilege and wasted an opportunity that should have been given to the Health or Medical Editor.
@sophieraworth
So sad for you, Sophie. I was walking our lovely Cairn Terrier on the common years ago when she got spooked by a Red Setter and tried to run home. I couldn't catch her and she died in my arms having been run over. I understand how heartbroken you must be. 🌹😥

Am I deranged for thinking a Shadow Home Sec should be seen with local Police Comd urging protection of lives & property from law breakers?

She is the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire. I'm not sure it's her duty to lie on top of the King to protect him from egg yolk.

Going equipped for burglary - is a crime
Possession of drugs with intent to supply - is a crime.
Drunk in charge of a vehicle even if not driving - is a crime.
Being a known pain in the bum, showing up at a Coronation with 200 sq m of placards etc - should of course be a crime!
@tnewtondunn
Or... (The full lockdown was implemented within a week.) But, then, you are a journalist, Tom. Is negativity part of some exam syllabus that you guys have to pass?
@tombradby
From July, Parliament is pretty much in Recess until October isn't it? Seems like all the Government has to do is keep the place shut until we're out.
@paullewismoney
Paul, That's a bad example to choose. Whatever the history, Hong Kong was only leased to Great Britain and the end date was fixed. Anyway, China could have walked in at any time and there would have been nothing that could have been done about that.
@cheesedoff3
I'm sure the Duchess has her flaws, everyone does. But whatever they are, she doesn't inflict them on the rest of us, unlike certain other Royals.
@danwaterfield
Oh, piss off. Anyone with a brain knows that WFP should never have been a universal benefit and the mess is one of Labour's own making. Their solution is to take it away from wealthy pensioners and millions for whom £300 is a lot of money too.
@BarristersHorse
"I really loathe Raab. If he doesn't resign, I'll just have to resign from my £170k job and give up a chunk of my index linked final salary pension" Said nobody, ever. As for the spotty ones in the Private Office, there's five waiting to grab every vacancy, they won't be missed.
@D_Blanchflower
@UKLabour
That's pretty dumb for a professor. It was proven that a country doesn't "just leave" the EU. We can be damn sure that one doesn't "just join" either.
@AllisonPearson
You can hear the voices, can't you? "You've got a right to choose your own time, Margaret." and "When you order your tea, just tick ice cream, fruit salad or sweet dreams smoothie." No pressure of course.
What did I tell you? You can set your watch by his helpful interventions. He should not be allowed to speak in public. Brexit latest news: Philip Hammond sparks new row as he says no deal would be a 'betrayal' of referendum
@PippaCrerar
@sophieraworth
No there isn't. I'm utterly fed up with this and an attempt to undermine the country's legitimate government by other means should have consequences - for you.
@MarcherLord1
@GregPaulHayes
@lewis_goodall
I've done fire drill exits from many buildings including 30 storeys. If ever there was a real fire driving people, there would be panic and piles of dead bodies in the stair wells stopping others getting down. That's why the advice was to stay put. And there's no alternative.
@tnewtondunn
Why is this going on? When our son went to University, I phoned them to ask how he was getting on with sorting out accommodation and they told me that as an adult, it was up to him. So now they treat students as children and register them as electors? 🤔
@RedHotSquirrel
Let's not forget the Port of
#Liverpool
with its recent capacity upgrade and nearby logistics hub around Warrington. Hoping to see a resurgence there too as the UK looks beyond Europe to the rest of the World.
@MarcherLord1
@or_pip
Tories in 2024: There, we've sorted out the @
#NHS
and put it on a sound financial footing.
Labour in 2024: They've fattened it up for sale!
@JuliaHB1
Julia, have a think back to 2020. The Govt began by encouraging people to behave reasonably and exercise social responsibility. The media responded by howling for "rules". That put us on track to where we are now. I don't know how

Once they've been allowed to leave France (that's the problem), the UK is obliged to rescue them under maritime law. But I don't see why they can't be put in Police vans and taken back to France on le Shuttle within hours.
@LizKershawDJ
My phone and your phone don't come into this. The alerts will be sent to base stations and every phone that's logged on to a phone mast will pick up the message. "They" won't know or care where we are.
@MarcherLord1
@MrHarryCole
I've been waiting for this. Surely, the Duke's funeral will be a family occasion and therefore uniform will not be required. Her Majesty is right as always.
