TODAY IT'S EVEN HARDER TO FIND A HOME because @EdMiliband announces that: Energy efficiency standards to be raised on rented homes Hello Ed! 40% of households depend on being able to rent homes and that is growing due to mortgages being harder to get with higher interest rates But UK has the oldest housing stock in Europe and 20% of these rentals were built before 1919. It is particularly difficult to make them comply as: They were built to be heated by open coal fires and with windows allowing draughts for draw and ventilation. Windows can be replaced but not in conservation areas or on a listed building. Their walls are solid and of a single leaf of bricks. And they often have attic rooms in the roof space. Making wall and loft insulation expensive and in many cases impossible. So private landlords are faced with huge bills. Or the impossible. And will have to sell up or get fined huge amounts. The number of rental properties available in the UK has already been declining since 2016 because private landlords were faced with: Increasing taxation on rental income and New regulations: 2024: Renters’ Rights Bill ( @AngelaRayner ) Strengthened protections against tenants’ eviction - even if they are in arrears or neglectful or anti-social Must accept children - which is a huge responsibility Must take pets - which can cause damage and disturbance to neighbours Must take tenants on housing benefit - which is now paid direct to tenant with a bigger risk of them not paying the landlord. Meanwhile there were already: 2,400 rough sleepers in England, 27% of which in London (2014) 67,000 households in England in temporary accommodation (2015) 320,000 adults and children homeless (2018) And the UK population has been increasing rapidly since 2015

@Toshula No they won't because demand already exceeds supply. And demand can only increase as the population is doing....rapidly

Caption competition: "And you're sure this will keep my pants up?"
The top diplomat who, chosen by #KierStarmer to be our new Ambassador to the USA for a life of luxury at our expense, when asked in public on a train about #Epstein, told @FinancialTimes journalists to "F**k off".

In the USA, the Diplomatic Relations Act of 1978 follows the principles introduced by the Vienna Convention of 1961. The home country can be asked to waive immunity so that the complaint can be moved to the courts. If immunity is not waived, prosecution cannot be undertaken. However, the State Department still has the right to expel the diplomat and they may be barred from returning to the US
