FYI: You don't need user channels to use hydra. You can do a DEX where users never have to use it at all if they don't want or need to.
The literal reasons you have batchers is to ensure liquidity by updating the "main UTXO" representing the pool.

I was thinking about this a few days ago. It seems that they check more for latency (ping) than throughput. Maybe just downloading a bigish file and measure then might be more consistent (but slow to refresh/sort)?
