@QBridgeLibrary
. Knew the day was going to be super fun when I was immediately asked “are you that author?!?!” on my way in. Thanks so much for having me 💛
Reading this book club review and WOW because I’m like did I really write that book??
Writing (and editing) can feel so fragmented but, when you get it right, the big picture & reader experience is everything 🥹
"[Ayaan] Mohamud infuses the story with several moments of humour and tenderness. The dialogue between the characters is natural and engaging, providing an authentic look into the lives and experiences of the British Somali community."
Thank you so much

I remember being worried about whether I should write a story that, yes, features Muslim rep but also dissects Islamophobia & carries Muslims through trauma when we deserve more joyful stories. Glad I didn’t listen to those initial worrries
The Thread That Connects Us has been 3 years in the making. It’s so wild that we’re exactly 1 month away from publication now! Please do consider preordering if you’re interested in all things family drama & teen angst - you can find the pre-order link in my bio :)
But on a more serious note… When I started this journey, I never imagined that this is where I would end up. That these doors would open for me, that I would even get as far as knocking on the door or get my foot past the threshold
210. You Think You Know Me by
@ayaan_moham
Powerful and nuanced YA novel about confronting hate and prejudice, offering a positive and authentic depiction of a Somali Muslim family. I'm looking forward to sharing this with my students - particularly Year 9 upwards.
When I received You Think You Know Me by
@ayaan_moham
I immediately thought “hey, I have that same outfit!” I’m about to make a big claim…This is the best YA novel I’ve read in terms of British Muslim representation. Check my full review over on

TW: My driving instructor told me to run over a Muslim woman who ran out in the road to catch a ball. He literally said kill a Muslim, wouldn’t that be funny. I’m horrified.
Shoutout to my family & friends who’ve kept me sane throughout this anxiety-inducing process and without whom I wouldn’t have dared to hope that something like this could happen for me
HUGE thank you to

Absolutely dystopian. Still struggling to believe we’re 2 months into a genocide in 2023. What good is social media and all of this connectedness if the horrors we’re witnessing won’t move political hearts? The West isn’t just heartless, it’s an empty shell
This evening we will be announcing the magnificent winner of our Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2024 and we're super excited!

fresh, authentic and unforgettably powerful YA debut!
You Think You Know Me publishes in February 2023 ✨
When I wrote You Think You Know Me in 2020, I never imagined my hijab-donning protagonist and her story would be so warmly welcomed by the publishing industry. A book with a black Muslim girl on the cover? No way.
A brilliant and heart-wrenching novel about one girl’s fight to escape the sex trade in Bihar, India. Heera’s story is not an easy one to follow but it is an absolutely necessary one and I’m so grateful to have witnessed it
@JanetEmson
So lovely of you! My YA debut YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME is out Feb 2023 with Usborne. It’s about a teenage Muslim girl who has to decide whether or not to speak up after a local man is murdered and Muslims become targets of abuse. Loads of other things in there + Somali rep too!
Zionists really working OVERTIME to erase Palestinian voices everywhere. So grateful the disgusting and sinister actions of this Pro-Israel lobbying group have been made public
I didn’t intend for a private phone call to turn public. But now that it has, here’s the truth.
One of AIPAC’s biggest donors offered $20m if I dropped out of the U.S. Senate race to run against

Genuinely the best thing about receiving these was my mum finally getting to read the book. She’s been holding out for a physical copy for 2 years!!! She started reading for the first time yesterday and is loving it 🥹 (I’m choosing to ignore any bias)

“This one will stay with you and serves as a timely and important reminder of the devastating, far reaching impacts of hate crime.”
And this is supposedly the most moral army in the world? The IOF are nothing but cold blooded murderers and I pray they feel no peace in this world & the next
Thank you so much
@TCA_LRC
for including my debut on this incredible shortlist! 😭 so many wonderful books and authors here, very grateful to be among them. Congrats to all!
You don’t get to talk about Islamophobia mate. Completely disingenuous and self-serving. Everyone can see through your political point-scoring attempts
This Islamophobia Awareness Month comes at a deeply troubling time for Britain's Muslim communities. The recent surge in Islamophobia is devastating.
My Labour government will tackle religious discrimination.
A government for everyone, one that unites, not divides.
London, I love you ❤️ what a beautiful thing to witness so many people from all walks of life coming together today. half a million strong standing for justice!!! FREE FREE PALESTINE 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
This book taught me that fighting back can look like whatever you want it to and, in Heera’s case, fighting back looked like a whole lot of kung fu 🙅🏽♀️
I Kick and I Fly is inspiring in more ways than one and it’s a book that I can’t wait to recommend to everybody!!!
Children’s and young people’s books are so integral to fostering empathy & this collection does a wonderful job showcasing them. You can download the free guides via: to see the full collection!🫶🏾
