Horrified to hear of the murder of Zara Aleena, a 35-year-old woman brutally beaten to death by a stranger in Ilford, east London on Sunday.
Thinking of Zara’s loved ones and those of Sarah Everard, Sabina Nessa and all women murdered by men in our capital and beyond. RIP 🤍
Just weeks after the murder of Zara Aleena, the body of 21-year-old Hina Bashir from Ilford, east London was found yesterday.
A man has been charged with her murder, but I can’t help but worry for women in London as violence against them seems to rise.
Rest in peace Hina 🤍
In a since edited post, Vogue France shared this photo of Julia Fox with the caption “yes to the headscarf!”.
This is a frustratingly tone-deaf take that is ignorant to the fact that Muslim women have been banned from wearing their hijabs in work, sports and beyond in France…
Can we talk about how Muslim women who wear hijabs, abayas, niqabs etc. are increasingly being sexually harassed more as modesty and Muslims are growingly fetishised?
I’m cat-called, stared at and harassed more when I’m wearing an abaya over other clothing. It’s so gross.
I’m so excited to announce I have joined the BBC as a part of their Future Voices programme!
As someone who grew up watching and learning from the BBC, it’s such an honour to now be a part of this incredible organisation.
💙
So pleased to have made the front page of today’s Independent! This is such an achievement for me as a young journalist and a Muslim woman of colour.
Too often, women like me are negatively portrayed in British media so I’m proud to be a small part of changing representations 🙏🏽
I’m so, so excited to share that I’ve joined
@CosmopolitanUK
as an entertainment and lifestyle writer!
I loved reading this magazine growing up so being in this role feels extra special 🥰

It’s also disheartening to see non-Muslim, white women being celebrated for wearing a headscarf (often, solely for fashion) while Muslim women regularly face intense discrimination for wearing it in France and other parts of Europe. Do better.
Today marks three years since the tragic death of Shukri Abdi.
The 12-year-old girl arrived in the U.K. as a refugee from Somalia and wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but sadly died by drowning a short time after arriving in the country.

I’ve been working at The Independent for a whole year today!

We had some important conversations about Muslim representation in the media and journalists can do to tackle Islamophobic narratives in our publications and beyond.
A pleasure ✨
I complimented a girls jewellery in the mosque last year and this year I celebrated Eid with her lovely family and our friends 🥹
That’s on giving strangers compliments 🫶🏽

Working at the BBC on their Future Voices traineeship for the last few weeks has been the most valuable, unforgettable experience!
This is a truly special place to be as a journalist and is filled with such talented, passionate people. So, so grateful ❤️
It’s so refreshing to see such a high profile figure like Bella Hadid using her platform to highlight the struggles, discrimination and double standards faced by Muslim and hijab-wearing women.
Almost half of mosques in the UK have been targeted by religiously-motivated attacks in the last three years, with 35 per cent attacked at least once a year according to a new report by

On this day, 4 May 1978, Bangladeshi garment worker Altab Ali was murdered in a racially motivated attack while walking home from work in East London. 10 days later, thousands of anti-racists marched across London, taking the coffin of Altab Ali to Downing Street. Rest in power.

Racism and Islamophobia is getting worse in London.
Just saw an older, Muslim woman wearing the hijab being called a terrorist, Hamas and accused of killing Jews on a bus from Oxford Circus.
