with the ulamog's crusher record of 8-8. definitely could have played a bit tighter but honestly i'm happy to have even day 2'd for my first pro tour. thank you to everyone who made the weekend so special, i'm so glad i got to see so many friends old and new 😊

Met some pretty epic gamers in 2022. Cheers to all the Ontario people I met over the last year! I'm going to the west coast for the next 8 months, but I'm looking forward to reconnecting and getting back on the scene in September. 🫡
The season has now come to an end, and what a year it has been! Although we fell short on some of our goals, we've grown and improved significantly as a team, all the while having a great time! We have eleven players qualified for Worlds, so see you all in Las Vegas soon! 😎

pretty happy with the way the list turned out, originally inspired by a list from
@SkyBSween
then put my own spin on it.
extremely mid showing for chicago this weekend
- 5-3 fri standard PTQ, missed both day 2 win and ins (t96 mincash)
- 6-1-1 sat sealed PTQ, got day 2 (t32)
- 1-1 day 2 of sealed (t16)

After thinking about the

RC results for a little longer I decided I'm happy with esper control and how it performed, as well as my own personal performance. I think I played well over the weekend and avoided throwing matches for the most part. (1/4)
TCG players - what were your 4 favorite cards you played at an event this year?
For me there are only 2 things certain in Magic. Regardless of format, Blue and Red. 💙❤️
Made it to day 2 of the Arena Championship Qualifier! Didn't do as well on day 2 sadly but it was good to make it nonetheless 😁
Day 1 and day 2 decks posted below. Sideboard is only shown for day 2 cause on day 1 I just ran it back every time loooool

Can someone explain to me the appeal of mtgo challenges? It's like playing your local weekend 1k except when you go 6-2, instead of that being a semis or finals result, you get 5 tix. How do you guys do it
Finally got to play some Bay Area magic and got a nice 3-0 finish in prerelease. My opponent in the 2-0 bracket was playing both Atraxa and Phyrexian Obliterator in the same deck like an absolute chad.
@kfm_badmagic
@NJ5030
commenting as i came up with the idea originally - was inspired by the torpor orbs in one of the showcase lists. it's mostly for goryo's but it's functional against titan and hammer.
4 push is to respect scam, zoo, the mirror, and yes, the prowess decks with slickshot. 😁
@AvianScrolls
also worth noting that she's hard for the opponent to remove, so she sticks around and rebuilds post-explosion. fires of victory is their only out
(4/5) The way this affected my standing is that airplane man would no longer be counted for my OMW. If I had paired into an actual opponent and won, it likely would have increased my OMW a little bit, enough to bump me into top 8. Instead I was the only x-1-1 to not make top 8.
@AvianScrolls
it's because she's a flash threat. i've never actually had it come up where she exiles one of their postboard threats. you want to be holding up interaction the entire game and she gives you a nice source of pressure to cast on turns where you don't need to counter.
In your opinion, what is the perfect magic card?
Not the best, maybe not even your favorite, just an example of a Magic card they got completely right, I'll start
@PursuitKnowledg
not at the moment. I tested a lot to arrive at the version I'm at now. only considerations are swapping a pathway for another mountain, and deciding what 2-mana removal spells to play in the board if not Divine Smite or Abrade. I was generally pretty satisfied with the list
My favourite part of playing this deck was seeing the Atlanta RC showing that esper control was the worst deck, and proving people wrong by succeeding in spite of that. If anyone is interested in my deckbuilding philosophy I'm happy to provide further justifications. :) (4/4)
@Lucianomunoz12
- greasefang is hard game 1. fiery impulse helps, but it's not always reliable to have it online before they grease
- lotus is hard game 1 cause I'm not as fast as say, mono white and I have no interaction with them. game 2 I have to hope draw moons and hope they don't boseiju
After a long/tough/fun match, I tend to think about it for a while afterwards, but usually a week later I've forgotten about it. Very few matches stick with me forever.
So now I'm curious - what was your most memorable match in MTG and why? Let's hear some stories :))
(5/5) It is what it is, not much I can do about it, it's a weird corner case situation. The judges were very friendly and diplomatic in their explanation of how the situation would play out, and the TO was very understanding and chose to prize me as though I lost in quarters.
@Cloudscraper
@ProSkill_Genius
i agree that preacher over wedding is not automatically true. i personally was very torn between the two. more testing to be done for sure
@Nicole_Dubin
@SkyBSween
jewel mine was excellent. a little too clunky to be a 4 of imo, but still extremely respectable with a lot of power to pull ahead in slow games. plus even if she dies, the dwarves are very nice to have for rebuilding :))
(2/5) Airplane story: In r6, a player (4-1) told his opponent that he had a flight to catch, so his opponent would win the match. "Airplane man" should have been dropped from the event as per tournament rules. This was not the case because it wasn't noticed by the judges in time.
@Matter_Mixer
thanks! not really, i made a very conscious choice to play preacher over wedding. it's close i feel but i think preacher has a little bit of an edge
(3/5) In my r6, I unintentionally drew against tron, leaving me at 4-1-1. R7 comes and I got paired down into airplane man who should have been dropped previously. I inform judges of the situation, and they give me a match win, BUT they also now drop airplane man from the event.
