@jem_arnold @AndyBeetroot So boxers get to peak pretty quickly, Karate, TKD not as quick. The more stiking based sports, MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai tend to get to peak quickly. We do a lot of work with endurance based athletes, maybe more than boxing, boxing is only small part of our research.

@jem_arnold @AndyBeetroot I like to consider HR Max, and also the kinetics around it, slow and fast phases, especially on the recovery in events and training sessions, so feel its a good metric.

It was a real pleasure having Hyrox athlete James Gilboy into the labs today. Huge thanks for travelling up from down south to be part of our research, and allow students to see how we prepare Hyrox athletes for competition.@SES_Abertay @AbertayUni @TrainRedSensors

@stevemagness @NCMD44 @PeterAttiaMD I think a lot of the problem is a real lack of practical research. Vo2Max is a good example, some sporting domains such as boxing (my research) shows very average values, but greater muscle oxygen kinetics, where as it could be flipped for other sports and general populations.

@NCMD44 @stevemagness @PeterAttiaMD Peer review is one of those grey areas and minefield, and i say that as someone with peer reviewed research into Mitochondrial function with SIT etc. Sometime reviewer is very clued up, other times not so much.

@ChrisKirk_ASP @Ruiz_NavarroPhD @caio21oliver I think a lot of newtonian based physics do not stack up physiologically, and its a pet peeve of mines with students and practitioners who do not appreciate the misuse of terms and function between physiology and "S and C". We do try to have undergraduates appreciate the nuance.

New NIRS sensor day, @TrainRedSensors. Looking forward to delving deeper into our NIRS research. We have some very exciting research projects both underway and in the planning stage. @SES_Abertay

@johngetstrong @brian_drago_ You also have to factor in oxygen extraction from the capillary bed to the muscle, and the gradient slope exchange etc. I think, and our own published research might explain this, that its the ability for the muscle to extract that could be the limitation, and not Vo2 per say

@SeanSeale @ChrisKirk_ASP You have to factor in device sampling rate etc, which is why i always have a reservation over can you link it Pcr or other substrates, given we know Moxy samples at say 0.5, Red, Portomon different etc. So what one is the more accurate? We are moving to higher freq for research.

Huge thanks to boxer Amber Leigh for taking the time to to travel up to Dundee to attend @AbertayUni / @SES_Abertay labs for performance testing. Another great opportunity for some of our 3rd years students to see theory into practice, and to discuss the value of testing.
