🚨NEW VIDEO JUST DROPPED!🚨
It’s time to break the CD-14 curse. Big Money is strong — but our movement is stronger. ✊🏽 New year, new district!
Ballots drop on February 5th, E-Day is March 5th! 💥

This morning at 6 a.m. Pacific health care workers at Kaiser Permanente walked out on strike.
75,000 workers just launched the biggest strike the U.S. health care industry has ever seen.
This isn’t what a healthy community looks like. Here in LA, the latest census count showed an 11% increase in homeless people 65 and older.
Streamlining and expanding subsidized senior housing is a matter of human dignity.
Let our elders retire in peace! ✊🏽
As a double bruin, I’m outraged. Students have a right to peacefully protest without fear of mace, projectile fireworks or physical violence. The attacks by counterprotestors are abhorrent. I stand with UCLA students who continue to demand a divestment from the horrors in Gaza.
Successful student activism is UCLA tradition. In 1986, the UC Regents divested billions from companies doing biz with South Africa’s apartheid gov over a year after UCLA protests began. It was the nation’s largest university divestment.
Proud to be a double bruin.
#ceasefirenow
UCLA students and community members set up around 30 tents in front of Royce Hall on Thursday morning demanding UC divestment from the war in Gaza, which has passed its 200th day.
On Thursday, City Planning hosted a public hearing on proposed changes to laws regarding where/how affordable housing should be built. The majority of participants spoke in favor of opening up single family residence zones in wealthy neighborhoods for building affordable housing.
A gondola would serve fewer than 100 regular season games, but a bus lane keeps LA going year round.
Bus lanes have no off season.
How many bus lanes could LA build for the price of one gondola?
My mom had epilepsy and couldn’t drive. She took the 81 to work every day.
I was a single teen mom on food stamps. There were days that 2 busses were the only way for me to get to class.
Public transit is more than a metro line. It’s a lifeline. And it should be free for all.🚊
Like so many millennials, I live with my dad. As a single working mom, it's all I can afford. If not for him, I would have had to leave the neighborhood that raised me long ago.
Seeing countless neighbors and peers forced out of CD14 is why I'm fighting for social housing in LA.
I'm excited to launch this new
@LAist
series about young parents in L.A. struggling to find affordable housing big enough for kids.
Buying is out of reach for many. Increasingly, so is renting. Is leaving L.A. the only option?
BREAKING: The Teamsters have authorized a strike at UPS.
By a resounding 97%, the members of the union have authorized leadership to call a strike of 340,000 workers.
It would be the largest single employer strike in U.S. history.
Idk who needs to hear this but when someone is stealing detergent and toothpaste, it's probably a sign that our people can't afford life's basic necessities and we should focus on ending poverty instead of just punishing people for trying to survive.
Just a thought.
Or we could just…acknowledge that fare collection makes up a fraction of metro budget and costs more to enforce and…make public transit free?
Crazy, I know.
Sleeping outside often isn’t a choice but a last resort.
Today’s SCOTUS decision is an attack on our constitutional rights that perpetuates the vicious cycle of poverty.
You can’t arrest people into housing that doesn’t exist.
Housing solves homelessness.
SCOTUS just made being homeless a crime.
The Supreme Court ruled that local governments can charge people for sleeping outside, even if they have nowhere else to go.
It’s a Cinderella story: a single teen mom on food stamps is now a tenants rights lawyer in the CD14 runoff. I’m honored to have made it here, but this victory shouldn’t be an anomaly. In a city as rich as LA, all of us deserve to thrive and all of us deserve a seat at the table.
The sidewalks are cracked, the streets are dirty, the lights are off, homelessness is on the rise, and the rent is too damn high.
It’s time to attack our affordable housing & homeless crisis and deliver the basic city services that all of us, regardless of your zipcode, deserve.
We’ve poured millions of tax dollars into the same old policies and what do we have to show for it? A housing crisis? Record evictions? Sky-high homelessness?
I’m proud of my progressive values. No more doing the same thing and expecting different results. We need a fresh start.
I’m not ashamed of living with my pops. Still, I would love to someday be able to buy a home of my own in Highland Park, my forever stomping grounds. But with the skyrocketing cost of living, it’s become impossible for working class people like me to even dream of home ownership.
Many adult children are either choosing or being forced to live with their parents, often after returning from college. While some young people might feel pressure to live independently, it’s not as achievable as it was in previous generations.
I’m a tenants’ rights attorney who can’t afford to buy a home in the neighborhood that raised me. I see tenants in rent controlled apartments being evicted to build housing that could be built in single family residence zones instead.
We're going to finish what we started and bring home the W in November.
With our multigenerational, multiracial coalition of movers, shakers, and good troublemakers, I know we can get it done.
Con comunidad, todo es posible. ✊🏾
HUGE NEWS!🚨 Today, I'm thrilled to share that the one and only
@nithyavraman
has endorsed our people-powered campaign! Nithya has been such an inspiring advocate for housing justice in LA, and her support means the world to us. I can't wait to work by her side in City Hall.✊🏾
The cost of a studio in Highland Park has gone up 154% in the last decade. Unaffordable housing is crushing working Angelenos.
I'm lucky: I live with my Pops in the home I grew up in. But I'm furious that neighbors and longtime residents have been hung out to dry by our leaders.
We can't keep electing the same career politicians and expecting different results.
For years, the people we pay to represent us have sided with luxury real estate developers over working families.
It's time for one of us. That's why I'm running for LA City Council District 14.
The streets are broken, the lights are off, homelessness is worse than ever and our Councilman spent half a million of our tax dollars on flooding our mailboxes with his face.
Imagine what we could have done with that money.
Thank you, CD-14.
Every volunteer, every call, every text, every house party, every voter, every postcard, every endorsement, every door, every donation, every conversation — it all brought us to this moment.
It’s our turn, pamilya.
Let’s build an LA as good as its promise.✊🏽
This is tragic.
CD-14 has the highest rate of eviction notices, the biggest unhoused population, and the most unhoused deaths in all of Los Angeles.
This district needs a markedly different approach to the homelessness crisis because what we’ve been doing clearly isn’t working.
A Boyle Heights resident recently asked me if I thought undocumented residents should be able to vote in local elections. My answer? YES. They contribute to our local economy and are too often exploited for their labor. They deserve the right to vote for who represents them.
I was born and raised in Highland Park. Watching neighbors and small businesses get pushed out because of skyrocketing rents is what drove me to serve my community as an eviction defense attorney. And it’s my deep love for this community that compelled me to run for office.
CERTIFIED ELECTION RESULTS JUST DROPPED!🚨Now it's for real for real! It's just the first leg of a long journey to City Hall but we are OFFICIALLY the frontrunners in this race! Let's keep up the momentum, CD14!

A billionaire is trying to build a Gondola from Union Station to Dodgers Stadium. Because you know what Angelenos need? A heavy metal contraption flying just 40 feet above their homes 🚠 Don’t support the destruction of local wildlife and the disruption to local residents.

@YsabelJuradoLA
's campaign isn't just historic, it's a testament to engaging voters where they are, having tough conversations, and listening to them.
Congratulations on this fantastic win. LPAC is proud to have been the first LGBTQ+ group to support Ysabel from day one.
Currently, the city is choosing not to build affordable housing in single family residence zones, which make up nearly 78% of the city. This decision is essentially a continuation of shameful racist and classist zoning policies which implemented segregation through housing laws.
HOT OFF THE PRESS!🔥
Today I’m thrilled to announce that the
@latimesopinion
has endorsed our people-powered campaign.
What a long way we’ve come. From our small but mighty crew to our 250+ army of volunteers, we truly are the little campaign that could.
Local Democrats are aligning behind a progressive vision that gives Angelenos what they need and demand. We CAN be a city that champions workers, protects tenants, ends homelessness and dismantles systemic racism.
Thank you,
@LADemocrats
. Let's deliver for CD14 working families.
GOOD MORNING, CD-14! It's a beautiful day to be Filipina!☀️🇵🇭

Representation matters.✊🏽Let's get it, Pamilya!
As a bi woman, I’ve wrestled with imposter syndrome for as long as I can remember.
To my LGBTQ fam, whether you’re out or not: you are loved, you are valid, you are enough.
I can’t wait to fight for you as LA’s first LGBTQ Filipina councilwoman. Happy

I’m so honored to have earned her endorsement. I can't wait to work with her at City Hall to disrupt the status quo and deliver real change for LA. ✊🏽
THANK YOU
@streetsforall
! I’m a lifelong public transit rider. Growing up, I took the 81 to get to Eagle Rock Plaza (aka the Filipino mall) and as I got older, the gold line (yes, we still call it that) to get to DTLA. My mom had epilepsy and couldn’t drive, so we rode together🧵

Do they know what it’s like to call hotlines and jump through bureaucratic hoops and wade through archaic, outdated mechanisms and contact your reps and hit every dead end, all while you’re on the brink of homelessness?
I navigated these systems for a living. They are BROKEN.
This woman begged our council saying she’s “desperate for help,” is locked out of her house, & is “about to be homeless.” Bob tells her this isn't the forum & to call one of their offices or 211. Bob hears that she’s outside Bass’ office & clearly crying, but he doesn’t care.
The Supreme Court is deciding a case with colossal implications for homelessness on the West Coast. We can’t arrest people into housing that doesn’t exist. We need a housing-first approach that helps folks instead of criminalizing them for exercising a biological necessity.
The safest cities in America invest in people.
Today, City Council approved a budget that does the opposite.
Only
@EunissesH
@HugoForCD13
and
@nithyavraman
had the courage to demand better.
Next year, I’ll be fighting alongside them for a budget that reflects our values.
We don’t need another career politician representing CD14.
@EunissesH
said it best: my opponents all run in the same circles. They share the same ideology, the same corporate backing, the same tired, old talking points. It’s time for one of us in City Hall. But we need your help.
This Labor Day I’m thinking about everything my dad endured as an undocumented worker: discrimination, harassment, wage theft.
How different our lives would have been had he had the support of a union.
That’s why I’ve made it my mission to protect workers and stand with labor.
3,000+ postcards, 85,000+ doors, and 250+ volunteers later...
We're going to the run-off, y'all!

🚨ENDORSEMENT ALERT🚨
I am thrilled to share that
@HugoForCD13
has endorsed our people-powered campaign! Councilmember Soto-Martinez showed Los Angeles that when we organize, we WIN — and with him by our side, come November, we’re going to do just that in CD-14.
Let’s GO! 🔥
Honored to have earned
@dsa_losangeles
’s endorsement.
Together, we’re going to disrupt the status quo that has left too many of us behind, and usher in a new era for CD-14: one that centers the needs of working Angelenos and prioritizes people over profit. ✊🏽 Let’s go! ♥️
BREAKING NEWS!
DSA-LA is excited to announce our first round of candidate endorsements for 2024! We're proud to re-endorse Nithya Raman (

Happy Mother’s Day, CD-14. 🌸
Today, I’m thinking about my mom. Before I even knew what the term meant, she was the epitome of a community organizer. Our doors were always open, welcoming immigrant family members from the Philippines seeking the California Dream.

I live with my pops and my teenage daughter in the house my scrappy, immigrant parents bought in cash decades ago after years of saving and hard work. That American Dream has become a pipe dream today.
Working Angelenos are locked out of the housing market. That’s got to change.
Honored to receive
@GroundGameLA
's endorsement.
For too long, career politicians have run the show in CD14. That ends on March 5th. We're going to roll up our sleeves, hit the pavement, and make history together! ✊🏽
Now let's win this race! 💯

The rent is TOO DAMN HIGH! Almost half of renting Angelenos have worried about becoming homeless in the past few years. Renters need more protection to stay in their homes — that starts with stopping unlawful evictions, capping rent hikes, and cancelling covid rent debt.
The report confirms what we’ve heard for years from the expertise of organizers and our unhoused neighbors: sweeps & 41.18 are prolonging the crisis in our neighborhoods. Imagine if we had used the money that went into enforcement on actual solutions like Community Resource Hubs.
SCOOP: L.A. officials have for months kept from the public a damning report, ordered by the council, that found a major homelessness enforcement policy championed by several council members has failed in key goals
.
@DoloresHuerta

Cash bail disproportionately harms low-income and BIPOC communities, creating a two-tiered justice system where wealth determines freedom.
It's racist, it's classist, and it's downright immoral.
LA County's new zero-bail policy is long overdue.
Today zero-cash bail goes into effect in LA. If you want an accurate, humane look at the impacts of zero-bail,

From day 1, our mission has been clear: to uplift and empower the voices of this community who have been marginalized, neglected, and silenced for far too long. That’s our North Star and that won’t change.
Thanks for highlighting our efforts,
@latimes
! Let’s do this, y’all.
This multigenerational group of women helped lead our organizing efforts in Boyle Heights. This was our first time seeing each other since we earned the top spot in the run-off. We did it, amigas! And we’re going to keep fighting to make sure our BH neighbors voices are heard.✊🏽
Today, I introduced a resolution with my colleagues,
@cd4losangeles

@hugoforcd13
calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the unconditional return of all hostages, and for a safe and immediate passage of humanitarian aid and medical care.
I’m not supposed to be here today.
A single teen mom on food stamps, a college dropout, a daughter of immigrants.
I was never supposed to graduate law school, let alone win a City Council primary.
These systems weren’t meant for people like us.
So we’re building new ones. ✊🏽
Hi! 👋🏽 For all my new followers, allow me to introduce myself! I’m Ysabel: a housing rights advocate, community lawyer, single mom and proud daughter of immigrants. I was born and raised in Highland Park and I’m running for CD14 to be a voice for the working class. ✊🏽
Organized workers have the power to change the world! USC’s actions are not only wrong but illegal. This international mass movement of workers and students cannot be broken. Solidarity with the workers and students standing up for justice! ✊🏽
UAW Local 872 has officially filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board over USC’s unlawful arrests of five union members and other actions taken to suppress on-campus protests. 🧵
I JUST VOTED!
I voted at the Arroyo Seco Library, where I would cool off in the summer as a kid with my Lola and study for the bar as a young single mom.
What a full circle moment.
Polls close at 8pm, y’all. Get to a ballot box!
As the proud daughter of undocumented immigrants, I stand with Dreamers.
Immigrants are the backbone of this nation. This fight isn’t over. We will defend DACA and we will protect our immigrant brothers and sisters.
