I think what I enjoyed the most about the first three episodes of X-Men '97 was keeping that sense of epic, long-form storytelling. They are not only building off of the previous five seasons, but they are clearly setting up huge season-long arcs if not even longer!

Tonight's X-Men '97 World Premiere featured the first three episodes. New animation style definitely takes a bit getting used to, but it's fairly consistent. The original opening intro is faithfully recreated with a few new twists and flourishes added in. (1/?)

Godzilla Minus One is the real deal. Godzilla is absolutely horrifying in this film. This is everything a Godzilla movie should be. It is the best Godzilla film since the original.

I didn't keep a timer, but the new X-Men '97 episodes definitely felt longer than the standard length. It feels like all the episodes have good room to breathe and really delve into the characters' emotional conflicts. It's like we're getting director's cut episodes.

I was highly moved by Belfast. An honest and intimate family drama set during The Troubles. Caitríona Balfe’s performance had me misty eyed. Young Star Jude Hill carries an insane amount of emotional weight. A truly lovely, bittersweet film.

I enjoyed Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The human scenes are dull and banal, but the monster scenes are fun, and they actually do a lot more with the monsters in developing their characters and personalities, which I enjoyed.

IMHO the movie isn’t about the Rebellion. It’s a subplot going on in the background. My reading was that the war was going to happen one way or another mainly due to human and societal decadence, lack of compassion, neglect, and the horrendous treatment of replicants.

The series is no longer shackled by a TV-Y7 rating. X-Men '97 is edgier and a bit rougher than the original series but not in an explicit way. Like don't expect Invincible levels of violence, but characters do bleed and get cut. The dialogue is more suggestive and mature. (6/6)

Black Adam was passable. Very rough, choppy editing. Lacked cohesion at times. Some dumb annoying subplots and characters. The Rock was very one note and stiff as Black Adam. Kind of reminded me of Scorpion King and The Mummy Returns.

All the characters get their moments to shine, but Cyclops and Magneto are clearly the standouts of the season so far. This definitely feels like a put up or shut up moment for Cyclops, and this season is going to put him through the wringer. Ray Chase does an excellent job. 4/?
