We should absolutely encourage and subsidize bikes. We already subsidize cars and transit so it makes sense. (We also shouldnโt subsidize cars)
Judging by how many people I encounter who are excited about my electric bike, a program providing vouchers for purchasing e-bikes is a no-brainer.

For those wondering if this is a real thing โฆ Caltrans district 4 is initiating a $500k vision study and a $500k scenarios plan.
The city adopted it in the downtown plan.
MTC is committing money to it from the fed infrastructure bill.
So, take this seriously
Oakland's 980 will be gone soon. Definitely one of the most useless freeways in the Bay Area, built for a 2nd bay bridge thay was never constructed, carries as much traffic as Ashby Avenue does.

1. Preauthorize all safety projects on high injury network streets (reduces contract delay)
2. Install interim improvements (jersey barriers and concrete blocks)
3. Create new job class for rapid response safety team (planning + implementation)
This almost killed me. Parts of the car hit my legs as I jumped out of the way. Iโm still shaking. Accidents like this are common on 14th Street. We need immediate design changes.

The larger project is for an 8-story, 289-unit (13 very low income) building to replace most of the surface lot at 533 Kirkham. The plans call for only 40 parking spaces, which is great to see since this is right next to the West Oakland BART Station. (2/3)
